Helmet
« on: Today at 08:16:41 AM »
Got a new one. Biltwell Gringo S. Anyone currently using or have in the past this brand. Gets favorable reviews and meets all the certification and for $250 couldn't pass it up. Been needing a new helmet but didnt want to spend a fortune on one. Being brand new feels almost to snug but I think with a little ride time it will form to my head and be fine.

Hall I to just bought a new helmet. I found out my current full face is 25 years old. Dealer says the helmet companies recommend changing helmets every 5 years which seems excessive if the helmet has not been damaged. However, at 25 years old I think I am due. I bought a Shoei GT-3 which fits so well and will probably be my last helmet. Good air flow, clear shield or drop down sunscreen and full face. It does have some graphics, but not super wild. Says any graphics cost and extra $100.

I know one chopper guy that still use his open helmet from 1969 ;D

I have also seen the helmet replacement guidelines. A little bit too often.
If helmet is  made of polycarbonate plastic, maybe yes. Fiber glass, carbon fiber and similar no.

My blue-white  Schuberth C3 PRO with good color match to my K6 I bought to Christmas 2014, first season 2015 has still good white foam, not brittle and feels still fresh.
As made for my box shaped head.

A new Schuberth C5 cost around $800-1000US.

I have seen helmets on sale with graphics of 2-3 years old models.

I started a thread about this a year ago.
It ended up in good comments and 2 links.
- Tests if old helmets are still ok.
- Youtube video about the helmet's vital parts.
After that I relaxed. 10 years more ;D

25 years old
Yea I would say it was time for an upgrade Johnie. I bought a Bell Star back in the 70's, great helmet and used it for years and years. I like the vintage look. the Biltwell has the ole school look IMO.
