Beyond looks, what is the purpose of the exhaust wraps? Just curious...
There is a topic in the tech forum right now about it. Header wrap does a number of things, positive and negative. For one, with the design of our engines, it can help keep the oil filter cooler, and thus drop the oil temperature a hair. The main selling point of wrap is the horsepower increase, due to hotter exhaust temperatures, and more velocity in the pipe. Negative would be blued pipes or accelerated wear, or in an extreme situation the need for carb tuning, and the ensuing headaches. however, after researching it, i haven't really found anyone who claimed more horsepower with the wrap on a 70's honda sohc4, or needed to rejet for that matter. Anyone else want to chime in with their experiences?
Having wrapped only half of my headers, the performance increase is negligible (but the black tank really makes it move!
), so the wrap for me is purely aesthetic.
