350 mufflers rattle
« on: April 19, 2007, 07:13:53 PM »
The baffles seem to be rattling on the stock mufflers. I've been told that the baffles can be repaired, but I don't know how to get them apart.
The is a screw on the end plate exhaust tip, but  I don't think the end plate can be removed. I don't know what the screw does.

Can I repair these mufflers?

Come on guys. The muffler design is very similar on these gen. bikes. These pipes are very hard to find and mine a good except for this baffle rattle. ...I'll get a pic that always gets a response.

This muffler is not rotted out but rattles like the baffle is totally loose. Can it be fixed? Whats with the screw? The endplate will not fit out the end.

Could be but the screw is still there? I don't think there is anyway to get into the muffler to get the baffle out. ???

Most likely thee baffle is just rusting out on the inside of the pipe, hence causing the rattle. If it is the stock pipe, there would be no way to fixing it without major surgery to the can (Being a sealed unit and all).

Thats what I was afraid of. Perhaps I'll have to split the can along the bottom and them weld it shut after the repair. I'll spray the weld with some zinc galvanizing.

The 350 baffles rust from inside, and they cannot be removed. I also wonder what the bolt is for; removed mine but the baffle wouldn't bulge.

I also painted the inside with zinc galvanizer; will post some pics as soon as I can.

I'm going to split the lower seam and see what going on in there. I'll use a grinder.

I just checked my picture archive and have no pictures of the inside-painted mufflers, but haven't installed them yet so I will shoot some pics before I do.
