Seat Cover and Installation ??
« on: June 21, 2005, 08:00:37 AM »
Has anyone replaced the seat cover on their machine?  I ask because I have a 78 CB550K and the waffle pattern has weakened and split in a few spots.  I've never installed a cover and wonder how difficult they are to install and who provides a good quality replacement that is similar looking to the factory...  thanks  Tim

Dave Silver spares in the Uk has direct Honda replacement covers (Pattern / spurious)
Not sure about the US.
Depending on the seat you may have to loose the chrome trim around the edge if it's there, as, on the older ones they were part of the seat cover in the way they were attatched.
There have been plenty of posts on this in the old forum. but there'll be plenty more opinions on this I imagine.

It's cake, tg. Just turn the seat over, remove any chrome or trim, and unhook the vinyl all of the way around. If you'd like to do a complete job, I'd remove and replace the foam. I'd also sand and repaint the seat pan. I'm pretty clueless and I stripped, cleaned and preped my seat pan in half a day.

One thing you have to decide is if you want the same pattern or want a smooth pattern. If you foam is good, remove it and make sure the pan is in good shape. I sandblasted my pan and repainted it. HAd my foam wrapped in thick plastic to protect it. then recovered with marine grade vinyl that is durable but a little stretchy which is good so it flexes instead of tearing. I used a smooth vinyl as I like that better than the patterns.
One bit of an idea. My pan was badly corroded and some of my tabs for mounting the vinyl broke off. WHen I reattached the chrome, I found screws and washers that fit the chrome trim and used those to hold the trim on, these screws also provide support to make sure the vinyl stays on. Just an idea for a little more durability.
