CB750 brake pads....which ones?!
« on: June 21, 2005, 08:17:48 AM »
hello all,

I'm rebuilding a 1975 CB750F and I bought a new front caliper of e-bay for it. The new caliper came from a CB750 69-77 ( i think ), but regardless it was identical to the one that i pulled off the '75 CB750F. The pads were identical as well. Being the smart guy I am (heh) I decided to get new pads, and not worry about it. At my local Honda dealer, they had (I believe the part number was FA13) pads for a 1975 CB750F. However they didn't fit either of the calipers. I have linked to pictures of the differences below. The ones i need have a large 'pin' on the stationary pad, held on by a cotter pin on the outside of the caliper. The new ones had no pin, as well as being about 1mm too large in diamter. So my question is - what model of CB750 (and year) should I ask for at the store!?

The old pads (the ones i need copies of) is on the left - the new one on the right:

thoughts?

I have a 1977 CB-750K.  The pads on the right fit the 1977 & 1978 K bikes.  I think the pads on the left are for the bikes with the rubber boots on the front forks.

That's possible - i'm starting to think the calipers were from another model. I have no rubber boots on my 750 (i do on my 550, so i know what you mean.) well, rather than buy a 2nd new caliper, i'd rather ust get the right pads. do you think trying an earlier year, such as a '74 CB750 might help? i'm in the dark on this one. Thanks

I converted my 77 to dual disks so I bought the second caliper I needed.  The second caliper had a smaller diameter piston than the original.  I think the previous owner may have put later model calipers on the bike.  The pads with the pin are for the earlier year 750's.  Use the new pads if they fit what you have on the bke.

i'm definitely getting new pads. i'll try an earlier year. hell, if the ones from my '76 550 fit, i'll use that model. i'd like to use the new pads i bought yesterday, but i don't have a caliper that they'll fit :)

All the pads I have on my CB550s are the style you've pictured on the right.
See sig for those models.

You need pads from an earlier K1-K3 750
