Old Magazines
« on: April 21, 2007, 01:08:58 PM »
I've been getting into old magazines lately. They are great reading as I feel I sort of belong to that 1960's, 1970's era. I have magazines with first road tests of the CB750, Kawasaki H1 and H2, CBX and Goldwing, amongst others. There are advertisements for $51 Bell full face helmets and $14 leathers. A Vincent Black Lightening for sale for I think it was $3000. Worth about $200,000 now or around that figure.

This is an advertisement for the CB750 that appeared before the bike was available for sale. Note the pre production details, CB450 tank, different pipes and heat shields etc.

Another pre production advertisement, different seat. Spot the other differences?

I'm drooling. There are things in this world that just can't be bought for any amount of money.

I'm still drooling....

What a road trip, one I hope to do myself before I get too much older.

Yup - checked out both of those out of our stock. (we sell auto/motorcycle/construction literature on eBay). I scanned in the whole article on the first one and will post it soon along with quite the selection on cafe' oriented CB stuff.

I also have been meaning to scan in all the Norton girl ads.  ..they were a hoOt!  lol  I notice the pin up girl ads had their heyday in the late 60's to early 70's then kind of disappeared (probably because feminism got all trendy around then).

If I ever go back to school for my master's degree (in Sociology), I would totally do my thesis on gender roles in auto & motorcycle literature (manuals and magazines)    :o

Great stuff, luv those old adds and road tests. I've bought a couple good CDs for the CB750 off eBay with loads of adds, comparisons, road tests etc. Buying a CD with 25 road tests for $10 is cheaper than trying to pick up the individual magazines. Did the same when I had my Norton and before that my Triumph.
