Topic: I've been in Virginia

Just wanted to drop in on my favorite group of motoforum posters and wish everyone a happy and healthy 07 season.  My internet access is sporadic at best and i have been missing my interaction with laid back knowledgable sohc minded bikers. 

On march 4th i was called down to VA to work on a project and then asked to stay in richmond for the run of the production, which should keep me there until July.  I rode the bike down and have already logged 1000 miles since then riding from location to location.  VA is a great place to ride, if you can make it out of the city where folks are nutso. 
So all of you who are in the richmond area, I am looking for local sohc4ers to run with during my very infrequent free time (working 65 - 80 hours a week) as well as some leads on roads worth checking out in the vicinity.  I am riding back down today from baltimore and will bring my camera this time for some trip pics if i can.

Ok Klark, when you decide you want to head over to the Blue Ridge give me a shout.
It's about 3 hours (ok 2 1/2 on a SOHC )

I'll be glad to show you this end of the State and have a chance to
see another SOHC!

Though I live in PA, I have some really great friends outside of Richmond.  If you get the chance head west toward Goochland and talke route 522 north.  Great back road driving and like going back in time on some sections. 522 runs through VA, WVA and into PA.  I hope you enjoy the ride and southern hospitality.

Good call on 522.  I live just east of Charlottesville and take that route into Richmond whenever I can.  There are tons of great roads up this way if you can spare the time.  I should have my 550 up and ready for some twisties in about a month (have to finish my friend's bike first for Bike Week) so let me know if you want a tour guide through the foothills.

rode home in the rain yesterday to see lois, going back today to be at work at 4am monday.  301 is nice.

thanks sidematic, one of the main sets is on the state farm in powhatan so i did a little riding out there but only commuting so i didnt get to see a whole lot of 522.  i will check it out more next time we are out there- north or south of rt 6? does it matter? 

the blue ridge is on my long list of things to do when i have more than one day off at a time and i iwll definately let you know rocking-m.

  cville- let me know when the 550 is on the road, i would be into checking out charlottesville

met a harley rider at a sheetz in va on my way up as i was putting on more layers and the rain was picking up.  he said he had planned a trip that he had tried to do the past two weekends, but that he was just north of where we were and it was real nasty so he was turning back.  i suggested he push through it or wait it out, pointing out that the cycles are waterproof, but he wasnt having it.  i gotta admit i wasnt looking foward to 100 miles in the rain, but when the clouds broke as the baltimore skyline peaked out of the landscape, it was all worth it.  and then I got to see lois. 



let me know if any of you are planning any rides in the great state of va, and i will post here if i am planning one that isnt commute based.

           Don't and never have lived there but have been through there back around 78-79'. I went to Fort Belvoir for a 2 1/2 month Power Generation Course there. From Western Arkansas to Ft, Belvoir has an incredible amount of beautiful scenery and makes a great drive too! Those mountains, forrests and twisty roads sure make a great drive. We' went out I-40 (I forget what other interstates or highways), went to see Charlottesville (to see where the Waltons show was about) and then on to Richmond, where we headed North to Ft Belvoir outside of Alexandria. Did a lot of sight seeing on that trip (13miles from D.C.)

one more thing before i head back down-

found a very biker friendly bar called apehangers on 301 near the md va border.  great place with friendly folks and good food and the custom/harley crowd there has a lot of respect for a loaded up 550 making a richmond baltimore run in the rain.  ill be there in a couple hours if anyone is from southern md- or every other weekend for the next several weeks.

its that time again,

i am back in baltimore for five m inutes and wanted to check in with the sohc4heads i hold so dear.  It looks like production is going to wrap up so i have only one or two weeks of packing it all up and counting it left down in VA.  amazing how quickly three months rolls by when you are working 70 hours a week.  Lois had wanted to go to the beach for memorial day but i thought that sounded too much like what a lemming would do, so i think we are headded to the mountains    Rocking M- will you be around for the long weekend?   i still have to figure out how to get her to thnk me riding the bike while she drives there is a good idea, or i will be out there without my steed, but i am sure i will enjoy the scenery and the time off regardless. 

thats all the news fit to type, and i forgot the bloody camera down there again so no pics.  (301 is nothing spectacular anyway just a nice long road, so no big loss.)

i hope all is well with yall- i am off to read about your latest issues in the forums.

 dont worry DD, the whole time i was in VA i never had enough free time to do any pleasure riding.  I did see a lot of the powhatan and greater richmond area while commuting by CB and plan on visiting again for fun.  i need to get out to those mountains.  if not, there is a rumor about another job, even deeper into VA (near the tenn border), at the end of august, and i will be trying to ride with fellow members if i am there.  and without even the possibility of riding home every weekend, i will have some weekend time to ride for fun. 

thanks for beng upset you missed me, but dont worry i aint going nowhere (in so many ways)
