what are your exhaust preferences?
« on: April 25, 2007, 09:35:54 AM »
I am building a '71 CB750 cafe, and wonder what your exhaust preferences are.  I want to go with a 4-into-1 system, just not sure which one.
It took 10 years but she's finally done!

I have a MAC 4 into 1 on my CB750 with the baffle removed.
Love the sound, but the look of the cannon isnt the greatest (can always be changed)..
Cant beat the price either ($200 new)..

That's a good question ksmith. Not to hijack your thred but I'm also looking for an exhaust for my 750k.

I like the sportbike sound and also like the sound of a v-twin, i.e. ducati or RC51.

Is there an exhaust out there for our bikes that can duplicate either of these sounds?

Go buy a twin? ;D

Just kidding, It is hard to get that sound out of a 4 pot bike, you could just muffle two cylinders but it would sound like a paralel twin, which is not bad. But why not just embrace the SOHC sound!! it sounds WAY better than a hardley. :-X

I'm enjoying the hm341's MUCH more than the (action 4's?) 4 into 1 I had on. My cb750 is my daily, though, I ride it every day, rain or shine, everywhere I go, so the loud 4 into 1 really got on my nerves after a while. I liek the way the 4 into 4's look, too, balanced on both sides, and distinctive.
No.

Harley...hell no! I actually like the sound of a kerker on our bikes but have yet to hear the MAC.

I can't get over how sweet ProTeal55's bike looks!

I have a Kerker with stock baffle on it on my 75 750F. It's relatively quiet. I like it. My buddy tells me it sounds like a sport bike when I crank it but that may be in part due to the engine goodies I have in it too. I was running the stock header open (no muffler) for a while and it sounded like a stock car when I cranked it. Pretty loud but mean, especially with the Yosh cam hitting a lick at idle.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Hindle used to make a 4 into 1 merged collector header and bend pipe. Same pipe that Bodden used on his Big Benly build a few years back before the AHRMA changed their rules. It's the one that is on my ride. It is designed to sit lower and mount to the right side passenger peg mount. I bent it up and made a bracket to get the high pipe look. Street and Competition used to carry them, but I bought the last two they had on close-out. That was 4 years ago. Great pipe though, 1 3/4" outlet, great plating (nickel). It fits all of their 1 3/4" cans. I have an 18" Stealth race can on it, no baffle, straight through. It's very quiet at idle but it screams "full on race" at higher rpm's. Contact Hindle, I'm sure they could bend one up for you, maybe even have one in stock. Now I don't want to step on any toes here, but I have always hated the Kerker and Mac systems because the muffler is integral to the system. Sure you can cut and paste something out of one, but if you are going to go to that amount of effort why not pay someone to bend one up and throw an aftermarket can on it? If you like your Kerker or Mac or Jardine or whatever low-boy pipe you have, great, but I like a high pipe. Just livin' the high life. Peace.

Teal, Is that the Jet-Hot Copperhead coating peaking out from under the header wrap?

I have the Hindle with the 2.25" outlet and carbon race baffle. I run a 1.75" unit on my FJ. I got both from Street and Comp back when I owned my shop. It is very reasonable in regard to noise and works well. Hindle will not bend that pipe unless you plan to buy a lot (like hundreds) of units. Mark McGrew from M3 talked to Lange 3 or 4 years ago about making him 25 pieces and he said forget it

Kerker is the only way to go! Especially if you had one of these bikes or the kawa back in
the 70's when you were to poor to go out and buy a kerker but you constantly
heard them on other folks bikes. The stock baffle they put in them now due
to the Feds is not to bad a sound if you take out half of the packing when you get it.
And if you want the original sound there are two different race baffles offered
by Dennis Kirk and others. With out the baffles its just bad ass! ;D
