That first one always makes me chuckle! ;D

The second one is a perfect example of why not to blindly follow the rider in front of you. :o

Dumb ass, passing blind is the only reason I see.
truck driver should have hung out though.

that first one I've seen a few times, always get a chuckle out of it.
farthest thing from funny to the owner though!

In the second video: It's sad that the bike went down, though the lead rider was definitely not very bright.

It's really sad that the second vehicle didn't stop, as they might have been able to help carry the rider to a hospital, or to pull the bike out of the ravine. :(

People helping people?

The 'wreck the bike on exit from the dealership' scenario is not uncommon. Ah the joys of male testosterone and "I don't need no stinkin' lessons to help me drive into that car, trea, lamp post....".

A fellow here bought a brand new Yamaha FZ1 from the local dealer having last ridden a '70s Brit bike. On the uphill exit from the dealer he drove straight across the road after dumping the clutch (the bike was probably 4x the power of the last one he rode) into the ditch on the other side.

The replacement bike he drove off a corner like in the first video.

He then came to me asking for lessons!

I know at least 3 older guys who have killed bikes during test drives & just after having purchased them. Usually it's guys who rode 650's or 750's 20 years ago, and decide to blow 40K$ on a big Harley. ROFLOL.

One older guy I know races on a closed track (he had hip replacement surgery around 2 years ago). It's amazing that he has tragically killed so many bikes. He happens to be a university prof (Chemistry). A nice & smart guy, he pointed me to the mechanic I bought my bike from. I don't know how these things can happen repeatedly though.

Funny when a Harley guy tries to pull a crotch-rocket maneuver, not funny when he runs off the road like that.  Super funny when a brand new Harley or Suzuki 'busa or something similar is wrecked on the lot due to inexperience.

To be fair, I've worked with several guys who have dropped big $$ cash money on their new bike and have then had the sense to immediately decide to take lessons to learn how to ride it. There were still tears when they had the odd little 'oopsy' in training, but nothing like the anguish of riding it off the road or into a car.

Lessons are always a good idea, in my book.  I plan to take the MSA course as soon as my bike is legal.  I've done alot of offroading and also on road riding, but never commuted on a bike in traffic situations.  Seems like it'll be worth it to get some expert training.

The more I watch that video, the more I find myself asking 'what was he thinking?'
you get a split second view of the curve from the lead vehicle then the harley shoots past on the outside, and then locks up the rear?

RV driver? WIMP. first thing he says is 'their gonna, their gonna beat our..'

ken.

Probably misjudged the corner and didn't trust the bike to take him through it if he leaned hard.  And he likely have never leaned hard in his life...

First video is awesome, can not stop watching it...  I would hate to be that guy as he crushed that car and majorly fubard his HOG.

For the last 6 years we have been going to the Tail of the Dragon (and surrounding area) to play on our bikes.  Recommend going during the week and trying to stay away on the weekend.  The mood seems to change on the weekend (too much testosterone) and I have seen some pricks, so I do not blame the SUV for not hanging around.  Plus if it is a serious accident the only way to get out is by helicopter, don't ask me how I know....  I had a buddy do about 40 mph into a stone ledge and break both legs on his TL1000...  Hospital is around an hour or and hour and a half away if I remember correctly...

This may sound weired, but when I saw the HD go off the road, and then saw all the other bikes stop to help I was hoping the car/RV or what ever would just keep going and they did.

I just kept thinking about me comming around the same corner a couple of mins later and having a road block in front of me....in what I think would be a very fast line. ::)

I have not ridden that road, but it doesn't look like there is a lot of room on the shoulders there to pull over a car safely and still allow for what must be a very busy fast bike road :o

The Tail of the Dragon and surrounding roads are awesome!  Seaweb you are right, for most of that section of road there are only a few pull offs.  Highly recommend checking it out if you get a chance, it is better than most roller coasters! ;D

That's very true. I hadn't looked at it that way... though it might be seen from the opposite point of view, that a bunch of bikes might not be noticed until the last second rounding the corner, while an RV might be seen through the trees a bit earlier...
