something is not quite right

hey guys first time posting great information here I have a cb750k1 that I recently got running its been sitting for 23 yrs it was mine when I was 18 great to be back on her problem is #2&3 exhaust pipe is turning purple I have been over the carbs a couple times electronic ignition I just checked today I did notice when setting the timing the advance was not the same between 1&4 and 2&3 also timing light was irratic when I had it on 2&3 I'm kinda thinking maybe a weak coil two other symptoms that I see is slight backfire on deceleration and when shes idling I get like a popping note any info or ideas would be great stock motor 4in1 jardine exhaust k&n pod filters needle on 4th groove from top 135 main jets air screws 5/8-3/4   thanks

"popping is usually an air leak on the exhaust plus aftermarket pipes always discolour as they are only single skin not double as originals
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

I may be wrong but is it possable thant the spindle or shaft is not mounted true this will give false timing , and i think ive read about this problem
but cant remember if it only applies to the 550/440

I would have thought if it has electronic ignition that if it's right on one set of the timing, then it should automaticaly be right on the other ???

I don't know about other brands, but on the Dyna-S, one of the pick-ups can be moved independently of the backing plate.

Yes. Actually, both pick up give you +/- 10 degrees of movement separate from the timing plate.

Makes sense since his problem is with 2&3 which are on the same coil.
