well I figured it was an 836 but that is a huge cam isnt it? Minus the exhaust and pods, what is the ballpark of what you spent? I may not go quite as far as you did but if I have an idea, it would help me budget and prevent being screwed by some machinist.

There is nothing extra on them than what the k1 had. K8s just look better. main differences were tank and carbs and seat oh and side covers. Otherwise they are mostly the same. Besides that, K8s are only a few pounds heavier!

see garbage cans are more round and barrel shaped, kinda like the K1 tank.

Now, now kids. You guys are clearly suffering from "Supersport deficiency" :D

Realy though, just looking to see about ballpark cost.

It's been a while since I assaulted my bank account for this project but here's what my dodgy memory comes up with:

New pistons/boring cylinder= $450

Springs/valves/guides/porting and headwork=$500

Megacycle cam=$275

Full gasket kit=$75

Total=$1,300 or there abouts

I figure you can put a decent 836 engine together for under $800 providing that you start with a head that's in really good shape. That figure includes all the hidden/extra costs that "appear" once you get the engine apart.

Here is a pic of the CR's. Sean the needles are about 1/4 to 3/4 on smoothebore/flatside carbs. It goes by throtttle position as opposed to RPM as on CV carbs. Keep in mind the main jet has a direct affect on the needle. A large main jet allows the needle jet to access more fuel. Your engine hsould get better and better as it loosens up...something to look forward to. How do you like the vacuum tubes in the intake boots? makes synching a breeze.

Geezu.vikvikchyi  j-0=-0o9'CRAP"ciuholj<damnitall!!>rdio9uyhp0i0iiewhc,gxhvf....OK! Sorry 'bout that Mike, I was wiping the drool off my keyboard :D What a nice looking set of carbs, bet they cost as much as my engine, huh?

I know I've asked you before, but I forgot the answer. How do you get a set like that? Are they still made new? Or do ya have to troll eBay and hope what you get isn't thrashed or raped for parts?

I've got a set of '84 ninja carbs in the garage that just might fit the larger F2 intake ports. Unfortunately they are incomplete junk but I can use them for sizing up the situation. My hope is to find another "bolt-on" improvement.

I'm going to take my carbs apart this weekend and adjust the needle clips. If the 120 or 130 mains I have don't fit the bill I'll definitely take ya up on that jet offer, thanks.

Cool! I looked at Sudco's online catalogue and found the roundslide CR's for cb750. They list 29mm and 31mm available for SOHC.  The only flatslides I could find are the Keihin FCR's and they don't list for the SOHC.

I think I'll give'em a call and see what the prices are like. Sudco seems like they have a lot to offer and I imagine they have good tech support. Thanks for the tip.

Sean,

I don't think Mike will agree with your thoughts on Sudco, but that is the place to get the carbs.
We got ours second hand but unused and have had no problems with them at all.

I can't wait to get ours up and running after the report on how well yours is going.

We have the same cam and pistons but the head is being done over here.
I wish I had known Mike before chris sent our head to be done, we have have had it away for four months and are still waiting.
Also the cost of the valves and head work alone is over $1800, by the time it is done and running we will be looking at $8000. Yuk!
It had better be PDQ for that sort of money, but only time will tell.

Good luck mate  Sam.

Mike,

I am interested in installing the vacuum tubes in my intake boots when you build my engine.  It seems like it is the way to go.  I just bought some extra jets for my CR Specials (1 size up and 1 size down).  I am still trying to find the parts to make the remote idle adjuster.  My pistons, cam, valves, springs, and retainers came in today.  I'll be ordering the rods and M3 cam chain tensioner next.

How much do the CR's go for?

Would it do much for a stock 750F with a cam say?

Great looking bike Sean, I'd just like to see one more 750 out
and about when I am out and about.

I have seen the CR Specials anywhere from $650 to $780.
I got mine for under 7 bills with two extra sets of jets.
They are the worth price on a modified engine.

What main jets are you guys running in your CR's? I'm running 29mm CR's in my bike with cam, bigbore, etc. and the 120's are pretty rich. needle on the top notch. Can't find any 115's anywhere, I guess they are on back order!!??!!!

Hello, Boys. I am wondering if there is some trick to getting CR carbs to idle on a street set-up. I have found it almost impossible to get a decent idle that won't recede over a few seconds with those CR's. Maybe I need different overlap in the cam, I was running a Kenny Harmon "f" grind. It just seemed that no matter what I did, it wouldn't idle; had to blip the throttle at stoplights. On the track though they were pretty fantastic as long as you don't get lazy with the throttle and gear selector. Transition from off throttle to open coming out of a corner can be interesting. Any thoughts?

Cafe,

You running old race CRs or new CRs? Old race CRs apparently do not have idle circuitry. Guess you'd need to pick up one of the CR tachs that have been making the EBay rounds lately. Think the face plate starts at 4K.

Speaking of old race CRs, did you guys see the almost new set on EBay? Bidding got up to $1184 and reserve still was not met.

Idle was @ 1500 rpm. I was running a Hindle header, no can, 1 3/4" pipe so no back pressure. No matter what I did it would gradually loose idle until it stalled. I was using some old 31mm CR's from the 70's, so maybe that was the problem. Switched to 32mm Mikuni's and the problem was solved. It could have been the crazy head I was using, lots of porting on the intakes, deshrouded chambers and .5mm squish with 13-1 compression and T.R.W flattops, so I think charge density was too low for the compression ratio. 84 horse at the rear wheel was nice though, especially with stock displacement, although those numbers came from a portable dyno. Since then I have always steered away from CR's, but maybe I'll try some of the Sudco jobs if they have an idle circuit now.

What Mikunis did you use and how did you mount them? 84HP - pretty impressive. 13 - 1. Live near the airport?

Sorry I don't recall what model. They were used from a kz 1000 drag bike and they came with a bracket so I just had to make some new boots from HTV rubber. The guy whom I was building it for threw it down on the road and it went up in flames, so I can't even call him to find out. Here in Minnesota they sell 110 octane low lead at several filling stations. Add a little octane boost and voila! 117 octane or better.
