Exhaust question
« on: April 25, 2007, 11:45:41 AM »
Hi All,

Looking for feedback on this exhaust I found on ebay.  It looks sharp, but the owner does not know what manufacturer it is.  It doesn't have a baffle/muffler on it, so I'm a little wary.  But it appears to be in good shape and the price is less than new, so that's a bonus.  I have some nagging doubts, so any feedback or thoughts would help greatly.   Here's the item:

Thanks!

I had a hard time figuring out who made it.  It looks pretty clean, but my gut is skeptical even though I have no tangible evidence to support how I'm feeling.

BTW, I saw your 450 with the franken exhaust.  Truly a work of art!  Did you do the fabricating?  You've made that 450 super sharp!

Prost!

The flanges on the top remind me of a Jardine pipe.  The Mac flanges were loose and used the stock half round pieces to hold the pipe against the gaskets.
Go metric, every inch of the way!

mounting looks just like the kerker I just installed and so does the exit angle at the end
that where the megaphone mounts.

Hey there   No! thats not a MAC  macs slip over the stock spigots and use the squeeze clamps and arnt  anywhere near the quality of a kerker (sound and performance  YUP thats a kerker pipe pretty good deal at that price they are 500 of coarse at  5 bills you do get the megaphone and baffle  but Im sure you can put something else on the end of it (you will want to) 30 year collector and been running kerker for at least 20 of them have fun seven fifty four ever Craig in Maine
seven fifty four ever its not the destination its the journey Ive been collecting these old dinasours for 33 years . they are quite an ICON

"No! thats not a MAC  macs slip over the stock spigots and use the squeeze clamps" ... Incorrect, Mac's for a CB750 do not slip over the stock spigots and use the squeeze clamps.  The exhause you have in the picture is a MAC.  I sent the photo to Dave at MAC and he claimed the exhaust as theirs.

except for being chrome, it's identical to mine.

I'd always thought that mine was a MAC, because of the muffler and a few other visual cues is the same as shown on the MAC site.

this is the pipe I think mine is:

 chrome one here:
http://www.macperformance.com/store/product1.cfm?SID=3&Product_ID=466

(Is it just me or does it look like those pipes are crushed?)

the only difference I see is that my collector runs all the way back to the pivot on the brake pedal, on the pic it looks as though it ends near the front peg or front of the brake, I figured it to be a design change to conserve material/cut costs. Everything else is identical, right down to the little rock trap where the pipes from both sides come together under the bike

just removed, inspected, cleaned and touched up the paint on mine, so got a real good look!

If you do find that it's not a mac, please post correct ID!

Thanks
Ken.
