I wonder if this guy really knows what he has or if he is just guessing.  I found this on Craigslist and thought someone around here might be interested.

1982 Honda CB750K 8500 original miles. It has a new gel cell battery and the carbs have been replaced with a set of remanufactured ones(not rebuilt). It also has a 4into2 header system. She starts right up and runs well. All this bike needs to be excellent is a paint job, detailing, and a choke cable(still works but I have zip-tied it into place). $1500.00 FIRM This is a great price for this bike in the shape it's in. Also willing to trade for a smaller street bike in good shape. 832-876-2366. Thanks, Ron

I am posting this for discussion, and not to try to sell some guy's bike (that I don't even know)

The discussion I'm looking for is:

1.  Is it common to see these types of listings in your area?
2.  Are SOHC bikes common in your area?
3.  Have you ever snagged a good deal from your local paper or Craigslist on a SOHC bike?
4.  How did you get your bike?
5.  Would you answer an ad like this?

For starters, here are my answers to my own questions.
1.  No.  It is a Harley town.
2.  No. I own 1, and one of my friends owns 1.  That's the only 2 around here that I've seen.
3.  No.  But I just met a guy last weekend at the Blessing of the Bikes who has a boneyard.  YAY!!!!
4.  My friend got hers from ebay.  We drove from Louisiana to Tennessee to get hers.  My 550 was my Dad's old bike.
5.  If I saw an ad like this locally, I would have to go check it out.

5.  If I were looking for a dohc 750 in that price range, then yes.

Yes, usually in the Interior Buy and Sell.
Not that I've seen. If I didn't know any better I'd say Sophie is the only sohc hereabouts.
No.
Was looking for any older Japanese bike (wanted the reliability) and fell into Sophie by chance.
If I was looking, yes.

1.  Is it common to see these types of listings in your area?
Yup. I'm in Florida, there are alot of old bikes down here.

2.  Are SOHC bikes common in your area?
Kinda. I've seen a couple running around. About 1 for every thousand Harleys. See a lot of bikes from the early 1980s, too.

3.  Have you ever snagged a good deal from your local paper or Craigslist on a SOHC bike?
Bought my current CB from Craigslist. 76 750K, from the second owner who's had it since 1979. Tool kit and owners manual were under the seat.

4.  How did you get your bike?
Got a ride over to the guys house, rode it home.

5.  Would you answer an ad like this?
If it was a 1972, maybe.

1. Nope
2. Not really, there is a 750A that Ive seen at the local WalMart with full-fairing, but that's about it.
3. Nope
4. Bought it from a long-time acquaintance after much bargaining.  Sold it back to him early this year cuz his wife begged, then she got mad at him and made him sell it back (I was hunting for a replacement when she said I could get it back).
5. I would definitely have to go take a closer look.

3 nope
4 Bought my K4 from an old friend of the family. had been looking at the bike for awhile and he had initially planned on making it into a Cafe. Wound up buying it for $250 once i get some time i will start wrenching on it again.
5 If only it was in fact closer to me...I would probably be all over it and have it home before the old owner got a chance to say SOHC!

1.  No, usually the listings are of H-Ds, Gold Wings and Sport Bikes
2.  No, I've been here since March 85' and I've seen very few, especially in the last 20yrs
3.  I think it was a good deal. I picked up a 62' CL72 that needed a lot of work & parts (99%
     complete and w/ a title for $250
4.  I've picked up my project bikes (as I call them) from a local small bike salvage. I got my 80' CB750K
from a friend by swapping a 175 Enduro for it.
5.  If I had something to trade and it wasn't too far away.
