Brake bleeder repair
« on: April 22, 2007, 04:23:00 PM »
Well, here are some pics of the bleeder repair done, using Napa part number BF117.  They also have a BF17 available, which is slightly larger and coarser thread.  The BF117 cost me 7.59 plus 6 bucks freight charge ::) and the BF17 was like 5.75.  To install, I just cut off my frozen bleeder flush with the caliper then drilled it out with about a 11/32 drill bit (which left most of the threads intact) of course I had to use a pick to remove bits of the old bleeder's threads from the caliper's threads.  Then I simply threaded the BF117 into the hole and tightened it down.  It cut it's own threads where necessary and is sealed very well.

Thanks, ic455!!  I'll give it a try and let you know how it went.  Worst case scenario I still need new calipers...

I bought the Speed Bleeders and went out to put them on the calipers but I realized that the valve was just a stump on the front and broken off on the back.  Once I get the old valves out I'll install the new speedbleeder set...hopefully.

wanted to, but my bleeder was so bad that after I drilled it for an EZ out(screw/bolt extractor) and nearly twisted the EZ out in half I had to just finish drilling out the old bleeder, which left a hole that was not exactly straight nor threads 100%.  This repair kit was made for auto use, and the thread pitch and diameter is such that it cut it's own threads into the aluminum without the need to tap it.

that's what I said, no harm in trying cuz your really not much worse off if it doesn't work.  but if it does, you just got a working caliper for less than 18 bucks ;D
