22 Years, 1 Year, time for thanks.
« on: June 21, 2005, 09:33:14 AM »
Well, it seemed like forever, but I finally got to take the old girl, a K0 at heart, out for a ride today for the first time in 22 years of storage and a year of on-and-off work. It ran pretty well, actually. The entire ride was only 5.4 miles and never more than 4-5 blocks from the house. I didn't want to have to push it too far if something fell off/broke/died/whatever. Fortunately nothing fell off either the bike or me. Now I wish I had taken some "before" pics, but at the time I seem to recall I didn't even think it was worth the effort to try and resurrect her and the other reason I was too embarrassed about the condition I had let her get to.

Thanks to all who put up with some dumb questions during the past year (I'm sure I can come up with more in the future  :D) and all the help I have gotten here, couldn't have done it without it.

There are cosmetic issues such as the K2 tank, badly painted ears, headlight and sidecovers as well as the wrong airbox, but those are the next phase, just glad to have gotten her back on the road.

Thanks again everyone.

Well done Bob! Now enjoy it and do small things that dont take long. All I got to do is take my own advice and start on mine!!!

Bob, I've been following your posts for quite some time now and I've learned a lot from you
and others as well.

You have done some awesome work and now it is time to taste the fruit of your labour. ;D

Seeing your photos gives me some idea of what to expect when I'm done. I think I've been
at it about as long as you, and the light in the tunnel is still far away. :-[

Mine has been out of service since 1985 and I'm slowly accumulating parts for the final build.
I have an old photo of the bike from 1984 that I intend to run through a scanner and post
here for all to see.

I want to have her done this summer, but my work and home reno schedule is very full.

We'll see how it goes. Maybe.....just maybe.....I'll be riding by the end of the summer. ;D

Enjoy the rides.....cheers to all.

Well done mate.
Great to see another SOHC is on the road.
Having to fix the other things is now more worthwhile

Pat,

No, just as accurate as I can afford. As time goes on, when something needs replacing, if it is not orig. I will try to find the original part. I'm not apposed to using some repro parts, for example, I think I will need to go that route for the airbox. The real thing is not in my budget even when I come across one. Sometimes I luck out. The bike only had one key and it did not have a plug on it. The second key was broken-off in the fork lock. I was able to get a set of new, plugged keys (2) from Hondakeys.com for $30 and even managed to get the broken key out of the fork lock. So bit by bit I will move her in the right direction.

Bob, I like your bike! It's a gem. Now ride it, it's the best medicine for the engine.
