kerker without baffles
« on: April 28, 2007, 02:21:14 PM »
If Kerker would sponsor me in some way I'd post a sound file
of the Kerker with just the cone in. But if I did with the increase in
sales that Kerker dealers would experience as a direct result of y'all hearing
it, I would feel cheated and used. ;D

Let me just say, with just the cone in place it's the 70's all over again.
People stop what they are doing to listen to the 750 go by.
Cops would love to catch the maker of that noise.
And riders get addicted to throttle twist-I-tus.

At 9k it's one of the seven most beautiful noises in the world. ;D ;D

I pulled the rear baffle out of my stock 650 exhaust and it honestly sounds like a V8 at 3500 rpm. It didn't get too terribly loud, but it's got a lot throatier note.

I'm considering getting a pair of [something]... I can't find the link right now (on my laptop). It'd take a little bit of modifying, but it should get rid of the "pop" sound but keep the deep throb... I'll probably get the link tomorrow.

I can only imagine what an open megaphone would sound like...

Anyone know how much difference in sound between the 1.5 comp baffle and the 2?
I pulled all the packing off my 1.5 baffle, sounded muffled with it on?
That stock baffle was like a cork.

I would like to take the baffle out of my MAC header.  I assume it can be done as it has a screw that looks like it secures the baffle.  Does removing the baffle creat any jetting issues?

Run the baffle with the packing, then without.Packing should slide on and off the baffle,no problem,
Mine is without the packing. :o

Does the place your looking at buying the baffle from have other 2 inch comp baffles?

Thanks

I bought a brand new Kerker (made by Supertrapp now) for my K1 with an 836cc. I tried it three ways; With the baffle and packing, baffle only and no baffle.

Way too loud without any baffle (straight exhaust)and had an annoying buzzing sound. I didn't like it and I really didn't want to aquainted with the police.

Maybe you could put more holes in the baffle, just not sure about performance. Sometimes I think more noise does not equate more power.

Hey Sand, i had the same buzzing with mine without the baffle. I thought maybe it was from the cone end.
Yea Siter they list the 2" comp. at Dennis Kirk's site or was it, it is Dynoman.

http://www.dynoman.net/exhaust/kerker-apps.html

scroll down a bit they list 1 1/2 through 2 1/2 and an aftermarked comp baffle for real cheap.

Hey IC, a good baffle to check out may be this one at Dynoman.com.

http://www.dynoman.net/exhaust/baffles.html

its about middle way down and it's suppose to be universal so it should work
with the Mac.

Thanks, RockingM, I'll check my muffler size and see if one of those will fit.  It's really not too bad, but it sure does buzz at higher speeds :o

Damn,I thought I responded to this post earlier in the week but I musta not hit the send button! About 3 years ago when I moved back to Calif. from Wyoming,I removed my stock pipes (both left blown out) and installed an ebay mystery header. I tried to ID it but couldn't get any info. It is 2.5" outlet and by looking at it,would say Kerker. Then I bought a complete Kerker on ebay from an 81 DOHC. From the pics and description,I could tell the header was trashed but the can looked good and the dude said nothing descibing the can. When I opened the box, I was kinda pissed because it had battery acid stains and the rear was scraped up.I cut an inch or two off the header outlet and it fit very nicely except for the mount tab. It is below the stock peg mount but I have it kinda BS mounted with a makeshift(McGiver) bracket. This might have been noticed by anyone at June 06 meet&greet in Berkley.....Sean,Jeff,Lloyd,Adam&Rhonda,Wayne,Joe,Lee,and of course...Glenn. I seem to recall someone showing up late with an F model that had his can tie-wrapped to the frame!!!
Anyhow......yeah,I run mine with the cone and no baffle. It can be quiet(er than a Harley) or it can make a nice tune at revs.

Here is my 750 with a cored Kerker

With butt-plug

Without Butt-Plug

it makes a huge difference. I can't ride without the plug, my head starts to ring after a while.
...that and the bike runs even worse (need to rejet)

Hey all been running the kerker with just the cone piece and if you run stock air box dont need to jet Ive done it sister is doing it and younger bro is they sound awsome and the performance is right there unlike the Mac pipe (sorry Mac owners) sister been there done that. and she  noticed the differance  when her mac was replaced with the kekker  yup the first thing I do when I would get the kerker in the mail is take the wrapping and baffle out I cant imagine  trying running all that  sh4356T inside the megaphone  yes it does have that disrinct sounds at 3000 rpms and at 5000 and I dont know bout 7000 too much wind well yeah it barks at 7000 but it gets the attention of those boneheads that for some reason dont see you and you can keep it quiet now on my 73 750 K with the 836 kit and pods I am running 120 jets not the stock 105s but  Sis and Bro 105s and plugs are burning just perfect have fun seven fifty four ever Craig in Maine
seven fifty four ever its not the destination its the journey Ive been collecting these old dinasours for 33 years . they are quite an ICON

Hey, KC, the video looks good!  Man, I wish mine sounded as smooth as that!  It's better now than it was in the short vid I made (since rebuilding the carbs with 110 mains) but still sounds kind of.......off, I guess.  I've got a whole ignition system to look at, though ::)  Dressed points and set valves and timing, etc., last year, but have plug wires hard as rocks.
