069A Carb Swap
« on: April 28, 2007, 11:44:33 AM »
Okay - I've been looking through here in the last few days searching for a definite answer...  from what I have read, I think this can be done, but would like someone to tell me a yes or no.

I have a set of 069A carbs that I would like to rebuild and put on my CB550K, which are, of course, 022A's.  This would allow me to ride while I rebuild the other carbs (my first carb rebuild so I don't know how long it will take).  The riding season is short enough here.  lol

I got the original 4-4 exhaust, original airbox, etc.  Can I buy the carb kits for the 022A's and install them into the 069A carb set?

Thanks!

Yes, you can.
Will it run as well as the stock components?  Possibly.
It depends on how well the kit's components meet Honda specifications (it appears variance is common) and how much of them are in the kit.

The parts needed for a setup conversion are:
Throttle valve needles
Emulsion tubes
Main jets.
Idle jets should be the same #38s

The 069A air bleed screws have a different needle taper than the 022A.  I don't know if the needle seat has a corresponding taper.  I'd probably keep the 069A air bleed screws with the 069A bodies.

Keep notes about what you swapped from where and which carb body, if you ever want to restore the 069As to work with an F model bike in the future.

069As seem to be harder to find than 022As as there were less of them built. (I think)  Rebuild kits for 069A are mostly unobtainum.
