Stiff shift into neutral
« on: April 29, 2007, 02:24:14 AM »
O.K. this is not really the end of the world and I have a feeling it is going to have to wait untill the next rebuild until it gets fixed. But I thought I would ask just in case it is an easy fix. The bike is a 750 K4. When I am moving and rolling to a stop it is pretty easy to get it into neutral, and when I am stopped with the engine off it is very easy. But when I am sitting still with the engine running, It is damn near impossible. The shifter becomes so stiff that I end up going back and forth from 1st to 2nd. It takes so much force to get it out of gear there is no way to stop in N

So is this an easy fix? just an adjutment? or should I just resign myself to living with it until I have the gearbox apart to freshen things up?

And by the way, the transmission work fine in every other respect.

Go through the clutch adjustment procedure in your manual.  Most times that will at least smooth things out a bit.  If not, then there are bigger problems.  My K1 is the same way, although not quite as bad.  When the engine gets nice and hot, finding neutral while sitting still can get difficult, but a gentle roll forward always gets it to slide in.

You clutch is dragging mate, I bet it really "clunks" into gear too? Get a copy of the manual and adjust it correctly, (not just the cable) and you'll be very happy! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
