750 K2 clutch spring washer/spacers
« on: April 29, 2007, 04:17:02 PM »
I just remembered something that I noticed on my K2 750, when I took the clutch apart there were no washers (clutch spring seats) under the springs.  My springs averaged 1.40", the friction discs averaged .140 and basically looked new.  I already know what ya'll are going to say, "You HAVE to have the spring seats!!!"  So my real question is, can someone mic some of those bad boys so I can find something that will do the trick?

One more question, is the adjustment procedure in the Clymer manual for adjusting the clutch lever underneath the cover (back off cables, loosen lock nut, turn center screw until you feel tension, back off a quarter turn) the last word on adjusting that, or is there a super top-secret trick for that one? ???

Put about 300 miles on her this week, ran like (what else?) a Honda  ;D

I'm not familliar with these spring seats you refer to.. You mean the 4 clutch springs?

Sounds about right...

The factory fiche shows the clutch center, then the spring seats go inside that (they just look like washers in the fiche) then the clutch springs, then the clutch lifter plate.  The spring seats are P/N 22402-300-303

This problem has me scratching my head because the clutch gradually gets more finicky as the engine warms up.  Everything looks great inside, but if it was a car, I would think that the pressure plate had wheezed, just by the way it acts.  Were the spring seats a K0 thing maybe?

I dunno, maybe I just need someone to tell me that I'm making mountains out of molehills and to just shut up and go ride the thing!

All I can tell you is that out of 7 different clutches, none have had the spacers/washers. no way to be certain, not having owned any of the bikes from new, but a couple appeared to be virgins.

Just had mine apart thyis afternoon, which doesn't have any of the washers, and I didn't see any wear, which is the only reason to realy use a washer, if it was for stack only, it would be far more cost efficient to go with a fractionally longer spring.

 edit:

possible the seats fit in the pockets snug enough that under normal clutch rr, they remain in position. wouldn't be the first time I've looked for seperate parts that aren't

If your clutch engagement bothers you, try drilling extra oil passages in the clutch inner. HondaMan has a post with pictures on how to do it (in the "Thoughts of HondaMan" FAQ). It helps smooth it out.
