Last year, I replaced the coils (and subsequently, the wires) on my '76 750k. Plug boot on one of the wires would not make good contact with the lead in the wire, and eventually, trimming the wire led me to 3 good lengths of wire and one really bad length. So I got a set of used but semmingly good coils from a local junker. From the same bike, same year, great. Actually, sort of great, until this morning. 3:45am, hopped on the bike for my morning commute, turned the key, set the choke, turned on gas, and then thumbed the starter. Now, it was cold last night and the bike was dorment the past week, so a little slow startup was no problem. As I thumbed the starter however, I noticed sparks. Not "happy kids are playing with sparkler" sparks, but rather the "apparently there is a crack in the insulation on #1 wire and #1 plug boot" spark. The little blue beauties were dancing from the wire/boot across to the frame/engine. Enough of this used/salvage BS. Some things you just gotta shell out money on. I guess new Dyna coils just made my list.
