Um, I feel a little dumb by asking, but since I managed to get this old '77 CB750F running, and it's really sluggish off idle, perhaps I ought to check these slow-speed pilot jets. Only thing is, ...what do they look like, and where do I find them? Are they the ones that are hanging upside down from the roof od the float bowl? How would I know if they were blocked or not? Can I grip them with some pliers and yank them out for inspection?

IOTW, What's this press-in jet look like??

  To remove them,  grip  with pliers and gently twist while pulling straight out . They are a friction fit. When they are out, verify the small holes through the sides as well as the longitudinal hole is clear. Squirt carb cleaner each way through the various body  passageways to be sure they are also unobstructed.

Blocked up slow jets will usually give you cold or uneven temp head pipes.

Your bike has an accelerator pump the squirts extra fuel when twisting the throttle.  Malfunctions in this area can certainly effect engine pickup acceleration.

Thanks a lot! Yeah, I noticed that ultra-complicated accelerator pump circuit, and I had to do some fiddling around to un-block those nylon checkvalves. The bike still tries to die when I crack the throttle too fast.  The picture of the slow speed jets was PERFECT and describes the removal and servicing very well. I've got to pull the carbs out to install some balancing fittings anyway, so I'll clean ém up at that time. I've also got an eight channel EGT logger and a wide-band O2 logger to help clear up tuning issues, but first things first.

I think I have the exact same issue, I have new carb rebuild kit on the way and thinking this will take care if it.
