120/90H18 on the rear of a '78F?
« on: April 29, 2007, 06:26:09 AM »
Hey guys, this may of been asked before.  Will a 120/90H18 tire fit on the rear of a '78 Super Sport when the stock is a 110?  Thanks for any help.

One size up (110 to a 120) is considered a safe bet all around... Two sizes up and you might have to worry about fit.

P.S. I am doing 110/90 19" on the front and 120/90 18" on the rear of my 1978 CB750 F3 Super Sport.

Well we dont have it on this site and I am not home to check my manual but I thought all the 77/78 bikes had 17 inch rear wheels? The 77/78 also had a wider rim, at least the spoke rims were wider. I run a 130 on the back and it works great.

I'm pretty sure 19" is stock on her.

On the front it is stock.  On all the 750s I think.  Now the rear is where small changes happened.

Just went out and checked the owner's manual.  19" in the front......18" on the rear.

What's the width?  Should be stamped on the rim.

Ok I did not know the rim on the 78F. The site here only has the specs for the K bikes. and Since I am not at home, I could not pull up my manual. Well stock for my bike per the manual is 100/90-19 front and 120/90-17 rear. I have 1 step up on both and it works good. Many people here have done that and had good results. Being an F bike, I would say you could do 110/90-19 and 130/90-18 with little issue. However, it is your safety and I would say to check the manufacturers directly and find what they recommand and what works for their particular tire. That is the best way to do it. A little more work but the best always takes more work.
