Charging problem: KZ1000
« on: May 06, 2007, 07:03:02 PM »
This is on my '79 KZ1000:

The battery has not been getting a charge at all, and slowly loses voltage until I have to recharge it myself.  I checked the red/white wire that goes from the rectifier to the positive terminal on the battery, and it shows a voltage of 5.5V at idle, and increases to over 10V upwards of 3K rpm, but only when not connected to the battery.  With the red/white wire connected to the battery, the voltage does not increase at all with the rpm's, and slowly drops as the engine runs.

I'm really stumped on this one.  Any help will be greatly appreciated

Cant be sure but i vaguely remember an issue with reg/rec modules on the Kawi's

When running check the AC output from the generator at the rectifier

The main components of the Kawa system will be the same as the Hondas.

Follow one of the "how to check your charging circuit" threads, but keep in mind that the wiring will probably be different colours.

Thanks, guys.  I somehow managed to fix the problem by just messing around with the rectifier and associated wiring for about six hours straight!  Must have been a loose or bad connection somewhere, because it's charging fine.  Now I have to buy yet another new battery for it because all the draining and recharging has killed the one I bought a couple of months ago.
