A buddy of mine (who has a much better paying job than me) bought a brand new Honda Gold Wing 1800. I am not inclined towards full baggers, but I have to admit this is a damn good bike.

He has been wisely pampering it, breaking it in carefully as advised. The other day he was on the freeway and he found himself boxed in by a couple of jerks in trucks. Everytime the guy in front would speed up, the guy on his right would do the same, keeping Rick from getting free of them. It was clear to him that they were intentionally #$%*ing with him.

Finally he saw his chance and he dumped it down a gear and went for it. He was amazed at how much distance he put between those 2 rednecks and himself - in a matter of seconds.

He finally experienced that rev limiter on the 1800. He said that the engine went from 4,000 to 8,000 rpm so fast that he could barely believe it! He was doing  80 in second gear at redline.

We both surmised that this rev limiter is probably a great feature since the revs accelerate so fast. Before he knew it he had pegged the tach. Better that than a blown engine.

Amazing bike.

I've got a friend of mine who owns a bike breakers, back home in the UK, keeping an eye out for one of these for me. I dislike the bikes themselves intensely ;)
But one of them engines would definitely fit nicely into the little sand rail type car that I'm planning to build in the next couple of years 8)

My uncle rides one with every concievable gadget mounted to it. The only complaint I have is that he put a cup holder infront of his left knee. Fine for him, but I'm 6" taller and keep hitting it! I had to give him a bunch of crap about it!

He thought that he couldn't get lost with the GPS added.  When he visited my area I managed to take him places where that thing could only report "Road". Duh, lots of help there! ::)

From time to time I think one would be really nice for long trips, partly stripped so it's a little more like the original (see the recent article in Motorcycle Classics).  I found it interesting that the gas tank is a 'dummy'.  Is that still the case?

When the Valkyrie came out, I thought it would be cool to make that style of bike from a 76 GL1000.  I have this thing about needing a kickstarter- it ain't a real bike without one.  And the front end from a GL1200 would give me the fat front tire.  Remove the "shelter"(where the tank is on CBs) and hollow out a fat bob tank.  Then you have a '76 Valkyrie.
