A man is stranded alone on a desert island, with his only company a dog and a sheep. After several months of miserable solitude and no hope for rescue on the horizon, he begins to look at the sheep with amorous intent.
But every time he tries to approach the sheep, the dog growls at him and chases him off. This goes on for weeks. No matter when he tries - middle of the night or otherwise - the dog jumps to the sheep's aid and runs man off.
One afternoon the man is sitting on the beach as he sees a ship on the far horizon sinking. Then he sees a figure struggling in the water. He dives in and swims out to help. He brings the person in. After a few moments, the person comes to and it is a beautiful young lady. She is obviously distraught but happy to be alive.
After a day or two, the lovely lass says to her rescuer:
"It was so brave of you to save me. You could just have easily sat her safely on the beach and minded your own business, but you chose to risk your own life to save me. I am so grateful. I know that you are all alone here and you must be lonely. I am sure that you have needs that have not been met. I want to offer myself to you in gratitude. Is there anything - and I mean anything - that I can do for you? You name it and I will do it!"
After a moment of quiet reflection, the man replies:
"Well, would you mind holding that dog for awhile?"
