Uppity Queen
« on: May 02, 2007, 03:11:33 PM »
I've just decided that I will not go see the Queen.

We've been told we can not bring our Lawn Chairs and coolers to the event.
Talk about taking all the fun out of an occasion! ;D ;D ;D

Probably no lighters or chanting "Free Bird" either...who does she think she is?

I have a feeling she thinks she is the Queen and Monarch of the U.K. That kind of position could go to your head.

We sorted that out in 1776. If I have to go see a British Queen I would rather see Elton John.

I don't really care for either Queens. Though once upon a time Elton did
a few good songs. ;D

We sorted that out in 1776.

Ya know, it's probably funny how our two nations see it differently.  In America, the Revolutionary War is seen as a victory for freedom and rights and the birth of a new nation.  To England it most likely was "A bunch of ungrateful little punks starting sh*t".

She's going to be here for the Derby on Saturday. I'd like to see them try to keep lawnchairs, coolers, booze, etc. out of the infield! I wonder if she'll be looking at the drunks and topless girls through a nice set of opera glasses?  ;D ;D ;D

That would be an interesting thread: Where would North America be today if Independence had not happened? Would the whole continent be one huge Canadian-ish place, inhabited by people who are good hearted, don't believe in making waves, internationally keep themselves to themselves, make great peacekeepers, have no international 'brand name' companies, have more than one official language............

Probably not, as there would be no power-hungry, capitalist warmongering superpower keeping invaders off the continent. Canada can chalk up it's safeness, likely to a  large degree, to it's shameless #$%* cousins to the south. (Me being one of those shameless #$%* cousins).

I think you are absolutely right. Whether that's a good thing is also open to discussion.

If it weren't us, it would have to be the Canadians taking care of themselves in that respect. Which means, they would have to become what the US became, more or less. Or become/stay a territory of another country.

Seriously harshin' my mellow..

I don't see what your exports have to do with it. Your country is paid pretty well for all that stuff, and we keep you protected for free, more or less, just by virtue of you sharing some 5k miles of border with us.

Blimey I thought we English knew how to pick a fight with a neighbour over nothing :o We've got nothing on you boys ;)

Back to the original subject, I suspect if asked, Her Britannic Majesty would actually inform you that she really couldn't give a toss whether you brought your chairs and coolers, so long as you were happy ;)

Speaking of neighbors, what do you think of your neighbors to the North?  Going to break away from the UK, or not?

We are lucky to Canada as a neighbor. It is a safe border. We get our best comedians from there. Would you guys send more gas please.
