I was out on my 750k7 tonite and a guy flagged me down from his car...he has a 1976 550 Super Sport in his shed and wanted to know if I might be interested in buying it for $800.

So I went and looked at it...it's been repainted and has aftermarket rear shocks and mirrors, but it looks otherwise original, has 22,000km (12,000 miles) on it. Honda made such cool looking exhaust systems in the 1970's!

Is that considered a deal or no deal in your neck of the woods?

Uh, we're gonna need to know a little more about it than that.  Like, is it running?  Does it need tires, chain, sprockets, battery, fork seals, seat, head gasket, carb overhaul, engine overhaul?  Does he have the title, in his name?  Is the exhaust rotted out from the inside, or is it in good, solid condition?

Just to name a few. ;) ;D

Well, the annual Safety Inspection is current, the tires are good, the bike is clean and rust free, the engine is spotless looking, no tears in the seat, no rust under the seat pan, sidecovers are intact, guages are not faded and the exhaust is original and looks solid. It's a good, clean, running bike that's been in a shed since last november.

What does a decent looking well cared for running 550f go for in your area, kids?

Just curious...

A picture would definitely help, but I don't really expect you to have one.  From what you're saying, and without the original paint job, I'd expect something like that to go for around $1,200 in my area (Denver).  If it were a K, I'd say less, but the F's always seem to command a little better price.

If you want the bike thats not a bad price from the description given. I bought a 75 550 super sport  in Redkey In (very small town)  from a guy I work with for $450 running, needed a battery and had a small hole in one exhaust pipe. Later sold it for $550

i just sold a 76 550k without a title for $650.  I tore through all running/driving maintanence and made it into a very solid daily driver. It was a solid runner, repainted and dinged-up tank, some surface rust and a kerker 4-1 exhaust.

But as the others say, the value depends on what you are getting.

im down here in ft. lauderdale , fl. seems to me used bikes go for a little more down here than from what i see in other parts. guess its cause we can ride year round down here. other than that not sure why they seem to run a little more down here
But thence came the Great Schism, when the two like tribes diverged, and the Bobbers did take the Road to Cruiserdom and the Cafe Racers did ride to Sportbikedom and they did pollute the lands along their paths with their abominable spawn of Choppers, Stuntaz and like manner of unholy douchebaggery

I think you're right about that.  I paid $650 for my 650 in Ohio, and a local vintage Jap bike shop said I couldn't get the same bike/same condition down here for less than $3K.  Plus, I don't see many vintage bikes for sale down here, either.  The ones that are for sale and run, are around $2K-3K.

Thanks all....I don't need the 550, but it's really cute and cool looking...seems a shame for it to be sitting in a shed.

Dang...old Hondas are like puppies! :)

Dallas area - if it's as clean as it sounds, they're easily going for that and more. 1000-1800$
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.
