Ok, I have the disease
« on: May 04, 2007, 03:35:39 PM »
Started with the BMW, then the Scooter (wife) then the XS650 (red one) and now ANOTHER XS650 (blue)!

Sheesh.  Actually the 2nd 650 is for my brother :)  I'm keeping the cool looking and poor performing front drum brake for my project 650.

Tin Tin, answer me a question. You are an ex Honda guy so you know how the throttle cable hooks up to the carbs. It has the threaded piece of rod with a nut on each side down on the carbs. I'm fitting Yami 650 controls on my bike and the cable at the controls just slips into a hole to the throttle sleeve and is held in place by a tab (no threads into control housing like a Honda). Is there a cable out there that you know of or do I have to go to Motion Pro for a custom made cable??

You're putting 650 controls on the Honda?  Any particular reason?

I haven't gotten into the carb-end of things on the Yamaha to know how that end of the cables differ.  However, I'd also be concerned about the travel of the cables etc - is it enough / too much?  I'm no cable expert unfortunately.

Hell yeah I'm putting Yami controls on my Honda!!! They look good, available, have the same functions as the Honda, although are a bit different to fit. I'm not going for a stock replica on this bike so I may end up with several different pieces here & there but the engine stays!!

You'll have confirmation that the disease has taken hold when you find yourself gravitating to the garage with a favourite beverage just to look at the stable of bikes......

My missis shakes her head when she finds me at 1pm on a day off still in me jammies just puttering around Sophie and the Mistress.

Hang on a sec, that didn't come out right. I mean puttering around the CB650 and the Commando.

I'm always out in the garage just staring at the bikes.  That's how I figure out what I'm going to drink that night ;)

The wife is getting in on the act.  She has a 2001 Vino scooter, and has just tonight completed 1/2 of the 2 day riding course at the local college.  She's hooked.  I've been meaning to restore a 1971 Motobecane moped for her that I've had for years, having been given it by the original owner some time ago.  Now I'll have no choice.

Now Tin Tin, you just got bitten by rebuilding that 550 to an amazing spec! carefull with the Yami 650 there are differences with the early XS1 to the later ones---as i remember it the cam chain is different and unobtainium and to fit the later you need a crank and cam as the "pitch" is different, also i seem to remember the pistons are different but aged memory is always suspect!

Did you try my "fix" on the BM tappets?
