This is what we see all the time hereabouts. Thank goodness no one else was involved...

This is immediately after a 70kph left hander. Judging by the distance the rig slid on it's side I'm guessing that he went round the bend waaaaay too fast and his load in the trailer shifted. It must have happened within a half hour of when I took the pics, which was at around 7 last evening, so I don't think he/she fell asleep....but who knows?

last summer i was driving my big dodge hemi work truck on the hiway near fairplay, colorado.  a trucker rounded the curve ahead of me, (one that is posted 50mph) truck was LEANING and definitely MOVIN.  as he quickly got closer and closer to me he quickly got more and more in MY lane from the force off the curve.  (he was oncoming traffic)  at the last second he whipped it back into his own lane while i had nowhere to go because it was a mountain road.  i was flipping him off as he went by and so was he  ???  i normally feel huge in that truck but, w/ a giant rig barreling down on you that feeling suddenly changes to petrifying fear!

Well, at least he wasn't carrying something that would spill, burn, and melt the road!

We have roads closed down here for tipped 18-wheelers pretty frequently.  Scares the hell out of me, even when I'm nowhere near.

Couple weeks ago we have some rain, only rain. There was a semi jack knifed in the ditch. Makes you wonder how he lost it on a simple wet road. It had been raining for quite some time before this so the roads were washed off.

Yeah, I ran out of pavement about a month ago. Riding into the sun and the road turned from tarmac to gravel. Locked the front wheel and low sided on the left side. Banged up my left knee pretty bad and completely hosed my tank. >:( :'(

Six weeks later, I'm fixed and so is the bike.  :D

The latest outrage down under is that a drunk with three grandchildren in his car crosses the centreline at 2
pm in the afternoon and kills three bikers. Recidivist drunk driver. He will get six months home detention for sure, poor bastard.

Is it quite a long grade as well as a 70 zone?  Sometimes one second of inattention can mean not making the corner.

Actually it's at a spot where the road is fairly level before climbing the hill in the background. But you are right, one second of inattention can have huge repercussions, whether you're in a rig or on two wheels.

But anyway, when you see the speed advisories around here they are aimed at the vehicles most likely to have problems if they don't pay attention.... so a trucker seeing a 70kph sign should know better.
