where can I get three bond 1104 in europe??
« on: May 04, 2007, 03:17:42 AM »
Hi all,

I´d like to use threebond 1104 for engine case reassembly of my CB 500 Four.
Unfortunately three bond germany says they won´t sell to private customers, only to companies :-(
As they couldn´t be bothered to give further assistance to buy their products, maybe someone here can help find a source in germany or europe where to get the stuff online...

Thanks and regards,
Alex

1104 is now 1194 - you will still see some of the older 1104 in bike shops for a while until stocks get exhausted.  Supposedly threebond reformulated the goo a little.  I'm not sure of the changes, but at first glance it appears to be basically the same goo.  I must admit, it's my first choice for a general purpose gasket goo .

International shipping - 1104/1194 is considered a hazardous material - consequently it should not be shipped internationally without all the hazardous material documentation.

Presumably "in disguise" Mike?

Just wrap it up and write "gift" on the paperwork...

You know Steve I never even considered it hazardous. It isn't a liquid (even if it leaked it wouldn't get out of the package), it's not fragile, it is not an aerosol etc. I consider shipping charged batteries, fireworks, ammunition, caustic liquids more on the hazardous end of the spectrum. I know aerosol containers aren't supposed to be shipped via air mail. I shipped Raul some copper never seize too....is that considered hazardous? I know Vegemite IS hazardous. ;)

What they don't know about, won't frighten them.

Unless the xray shows up gun-shaped...

Steve is correct BUT by god the faces dropped at Orlando International when i put two cardboard boxes through the x-ray
One had a complete 500 dissasembled gearbox the other a 605 overbore kit!!

Good job i wrote in BIG lettere "Vintage/obsolete Motorcycle Parts" all over the boxes
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Yep, Mike did to me a big favour by buying that stuff for me and sending it over.

Regarding the original question, later I found a german company (Alex, I'm talking about Louis). They sell copper grease (kupferpaste) and they sell Hylomar too.

In this case, the best bet is to put in the custom form something like "motorcycle gasket", and avoid something as "chemical compound"...  ;D

I once had one of my purchases returned to the sender. As he told me, he used an empty beer box and the customs thought he was exporting alcoholic beverages....

three bond is indeed nice but at the price they charge for it, no way!

Been using Arexons 552 Rhodorseal at a fraction of the cost of 1104/1194 with very good results, zero leaks, doesnt harden and easy to remove.
dont now where you arein europe but in italy and france at least, it is very easy to find

MRieck, the threebond cartons come with hazmat wording on them...

I can't tell you how they determine what is hazardous, but we have to be very careful shipping many products - most chemicals fit in this category - strangely, even Mothers aluminum polish paste is considered hazardous.  I would expect much is down to the fumes being flammable.  These days the penalties for shipping hazmat materials without the right paperwork is severe.

Have a look at these pages:

It's a little scary the fines you can be hit with...

Good info. I have a tube of 1104 unopened in the box from 2002 and it doesn't state hazardous. Tubes of Yamabond and Hondabond don't say anything though that very well may have changed. I couldn't help but notice that only companies were fined. I didn't see any private citizens. Looks like someone could get screwed for shipping used carbs!

Yep, I don't think sending individual items will raise any alarm -unless there is a "terror alert" and people get paranoid". If I'm a factory and want to ship boxes of my stuff abroad, it just makes sense to find and alternative way. Aerosols and flammable liquids are forbidden, but I travel with my shaving foam spray and my "eau de cologne" and until now, I have never been fined for that.

I guess the best bet is to erase any sign about the "hazardousness", be creative on the description, and send it along. The problem is that security personal are instructed not to use the little common sense they could have, so they just follow directions and can't decide whether something is hazardous or not just by following their common sense. I recall somebody at the check-in told me that if I carry an alarm clock in the suitcase I had to switch it of, because if it rings it could raise an alarm -no pun intended- "what?" If there is a bomb inside a suitcase, I doubt the bomber will make the clock will ring before the big bang.

This could be an endless debate. I have stated before what big incongruency it is that the police in Spain can arrest you for carrying a knife, but nothing will happen to you if you carry an x-acto knife.

Try this link.

I think there won't be problems with shipping. I received two VHT sprays from Germany and there was no problem.

You can order it from www.z1enterprises.com . That's where I bought and got it shipped to Norway. The price is good, and the shipping is fast and smooth as well.  8)

I recently bought some Threebond 1104.  The seller on e-bay u.k. is contactable on 01473 232908, ask for Patrick.  I can't remember which part of the country he is, but it was South of Watford gap!  Cost me about £18 with postage, for a big 200grm Tube.  It says Flammable and Harmful if swallowed on the box.  I put it in the hold on my flight back to the Middle east, unfortunately they conviscated my cans of Simoniz 5 Wheel Silver Paint!

I used Hylomar Blue on the crankcases of my CBX1000 in 1985 after 4th gear kept jumping out, with no problems.  But this forum appears to be in favour of 1104, so that's what I shall be using on my 750.
I used Suzukibond on my RG, which I think is 1205B, very expensive stuff, but very good.
