And yet another free bike
« on: April 02, 2007, 10:10:08 AM »
Just had a my buddy "Officially" give me another motorcycle. 1978 Honda CB400T. It ran great when he put it up two years ago. All I did was make sure that carbs were drained, put in a freshly charged battery and it she started right up.

Comes complete with spare tank, fenders and grab rail. Granted I think the "Spare tank" is the origanal. The side panels are orange, as is the spare tank and the tank on it is blue. The tank on it is rust free, the spare is filled with rust. I'll try the Safest rust remover stuff on it I figure. See if that'll work.

Pictures to come...

Sweet deal, had a 78 CB400T (orange) years ago.  Completly restored/rode and later sold it to a friend that still as it, they can keep up with the best.

Just watch that Rt side main bearing, there was a history of failure.  Mine was toast with 14K but it's an easy fix.

I would suggest the Yamaha tank conditioner kit. It's cheap, safe and works well.
Congratulations :D

Here's a picture. I have the old (hard cover) manual on the seat. And the back rest pad was practically falling off. The wood in the back was all rotted out. Fortunately, it's all 1/2" plywood, which my neighbor has a ton of scraps of left over from a project he was working on.  :D

I just got the tank and side covers back from the painter. They look awesome. I'll post some pics after I get home.

Saw it on the local Craig's List this morning.  Seller/giver told me this evening it hadn't been 10 minutes before my email arrived; while he was typing a response, three more emails came in.

Just got back from picking it up.  Complete, original, unmolested. 8K miles.

It's dusty, but the chrome isn't pitted at all.  Some of the tank's clear coat is rubbed off.  Has a tear in the seat, a slightly cracked side cover, a broken rear turn signal and it needs a new rear tire before any serious riding.  Been in his garage for four years.  Needs a battery, of course.  I just ordered a new seat and turn signal for it; I'll offer the old seat here or eBay it.

Engine is clean and will polish up well; no broken fins, etc.  Can't see that it's been down, ever.  It's dark here now, or I'd post some images.

Fa-ree.  Clean title signed over to me.  Oh, and he threw in three old helmets.

'bout freaking time I had some good karma.

here's the pic of bike with the fresh paint. My wife says the "Hawk" stickers don't need to go back on. I'd have to agree.  :)  The pictures don't it justice. The painter did a very nice job.
