Interesting discussion I was missing out on.
Couple of thoughts, no Canada is not socialist, thought there have been University Studies in that very area
(I was part of one long ago). Oh, yea, it's really hard to get David to even share a beer.

Electoral College;
My understanding of it is to preserve a republican form of representative government
(no not the Republican party, they can go straight to hell).
Ours was not to be a majority rule democracy, there is probably no greater tyranny that that
of a majority. Ours was to be a Democratic Republic.
Also, were the Constitution strictly adhered to,
there should be no IRS, nor income tax.
there would be no meddling of the Feds in State business,
there would be no notion of us belonging to the FEDS (social security for instance)
there would be no looking to the Feds to bale us out,
so there would be a greater since of community and statesmanship.
I could go on but it's past my bed time.
