Steering stem lock removal???
« on: May 28, 2006, 07:49:52 AM »
I tried searching here and looking in the manual; didn't find an answer...does it just punch out, after you remove the one-screw cover on the bottom??? Mine doesn't work, like to remove it and see why...

1972 CB500 Four, and 1976 CB550 Four steering stem (lower triple tree) lock...

hi , what year bike and were is the lock mounted? ,ideally you will need the key to get the lock out, if you dont have the key or the lock is frozen you will need to drill the lock to destroy it so you can get it out  ;)  mick.

hi , what year bike...

...D'Oh!!!...  ::)

Edited to add years...

I didn't think to put the key in...Duh to me!...But the problem is that even with the key in & turned, the locking pin doesn't pop up...

The '76 doesn't have a key...

Edited: The key in got it! Came right out! Thank You!

The locking pin seems to be frozen in the "in" position. Have to soak it a bit and see if that helps...

The '76 ignition switch, seat lock, and fork lock don't have a key...maybe I'll order a set from hondakeys.com ...never know when a spare set of locks (and ign switch!) will come in handy...

hi again , i only have 750's so will have to guess that they are similar, my ko has the lock underneath the lower triple tree, you put the key in the lock and push up slightly and turn to the left and the lock should come out , there should be a little spring in there as well so watch out for it , if you have no key for the 76 you will have to drill it to destroy it then put a new lock in  ;)   mick.

If you clean the crud off the end of the lock you should see a number on it and that is the key number, likewise ignition lock and, when you have the lock removed, seat lock

you're looking for a key?

After seeing that the entire switch costs a zillion $$$, and the nut and washer aren't available separately, yes, I'd like to keep the parts bike CB550 switch/fork lock/seat lock as spares...

Got a response from Mark at Hondakeys.com...he has a key for my 76 CB550!  :D

So, at this time, I guess these are the three places/people to try for keys...Ken, Fred, and Mark...   ;)

Am I drilling this wrong?  I drilled and it's still stuck in there.

I tried drilling from the top but the angle was much easier from the bottom.

My key works for the seat but it didn't fit the triple tree / sterring stem.  Who uses these anyhow.
