Whelp, I've FINALLY finished my '82 CB650, and after only a year of painstaking work! And it now has so many parts from so many different bikes, models, and years, it really does justify the "CB650 Custom" side covers (ironic, seeing as it's a standard, not a custom... I think those covers came off an '81 650)
So, after the thing tried to kill me, after I stripped every headbolt hole, after I put together the old engine and it immediately broke again and threw a billion tiny aluminum shavings into the case, I decided to buy a new engine (an '82 SC no less). Cost me about $100, $220 with shipping, off of Ebay, and boy does that thing run now! It leaks oil a little... I *hope* it's a leaky valve cover gasket and not what I'm dreading it is... But I'll put some pics up as soon as I can run down a camera.
Here's what it looked like before the wreck (and subsequent "customizations")

It now has a black engine, tighter angle handlebars, black sidecovers and a few dings in the gas tank, no mirrors, and no back turn signals with a slightly bigger tail light. This is a happy day

Now I have to run down that oil leak! Wish me luck...
