Newbie Engine Builder - Torque settings?
« on: May 05, 2007, 02:37:05 PM »
OK, I have all the bits and pieces now the fun starts and I have a stress headache already! Do you generally use a torque wrench on the 6 mm bolts like the one for the primary chain tensioner or just use some Locktite and tighten it down? I have a bad habit of overtightening things and then checking to make sure - obsessive compulsive disorder I think it's called.
Thanks for your patience in advance, lots more dumb questions to come.
Cheers,
Cliff.

Cliff - this is not from an experienced mechanic, so take this FWIW. When I rebuilt the top end I picked up a good torque wrench and faithfully used the factory torque settings for everything. There is a number for every size of nut and bolt and I was pleased to rely on the engineers recommendations so not to have to second guess myself later if fasteners were under or over tightened, especially since some of them are threaded into aluminum. All that money and time invested - didn't want to do it over. So far so good :)     Dave
