Unusual Plugs in a Race Motor
« on: May 29, 2007, 09:47:07 AM »
I got this Yoshimura CB750 heavily-modified motor from mid 1970's and its got Champion R-6G w/ tiny electrodes. Anybody know of such a plug and what do race motors on street fuel usually run for plugs?

R6G cross references to NGK DR8EIX. DR8EIX is a fine wire electrode iridium tip version of DR8ES

Whadya think, should I run this type of plug or go NGKD8ES? Or are those Champs a better plug? Bike will get spanked at every opportunity, of course.

Champions are fine.  NGKs are fine.  (NDs [Denso] suck). The fine tip lasts longer (noble metal).  A standard tip usually sparks better.  Fine wire tip MAY unshroud spark.

Either way.  Depends how you run, where you run, etc.  Depends how often you pull'em abd replace 'em.  Standards are easy to get and cheaper.  Fine wire should last 50,000 - 100,000 miles.

I have had excellent results with Denso Iridiums in my 3 bikes and cars. I think the design is better than the NGK.

I too like the ND plugs. Much better than the "Chumpion" plugs you get nowadays...
