Yep, 34 is stock.  Different front and rear sprockets are available from Mikesxs depending on your needs.  I'm sticking with stock as I've never ridden an XS650 before so don't really know what I need.

They're also a 520 conversion set, so I'm running a lighter 520 x-ring chain.

Got the front wheel today.  I didn't have Mark put the front tire on as he didn't have new spoke weights for it anyhow, and I was in a rush to pick it up today.  Will take it into Snow City for tire install/balancing tomorrow.

Looks awesome!

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys - keepin' me going!  The wheels are at the shop having the tires put on and balanced.  Might have to wait a couple of days for spoke-weights to arrive.  Everyone sticks balancing weights to the rims these days, but I wanted the old spoke weights, and I didn't want stuff stuck to my shiny rims ;)

Next step is getting the front end together and back off to my welder/machinist/polisher.  I need spacers to centre the wheel in the forks - not the standard front end for this hub - and a tab welded to the fork lower to mate with the brake plate.  Then it can come apart and the lowers can be polished and I need to refinish the lower triple tree.

Once that's done, and a couple more parts arrive from Mikesxs (swingarm shaft etc.) the assembly can begin.  Need to do a couple final touches on the engine too.

Should be rolling chassis in another couple of weeks.  Then things will speed up.

Finally got the front tire on, rear tire seated properly and balanced.  Front wheel balancing is waiting on new bearings.  They're toast and not good enough for the high speed spin.  Check out those fancy spoke weights ;)

Got my Lucas headlight today - fantastic peice.  Threw a little chrome polish on it and it's like new.

And, to my pleasant surprise, it's been converted to an H4 bulb.  BOSCH lens, just like on my BMW :)  So for $40 + shipping for the whole setup, I'm pretty happy.

British steel, Swedish glass (BOSCH lens made in Sweden) and Phillips bulb made in Germany.  All going on a Japanese bike ;)

Taken with a Sony Cyber shot camera Tinny? ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Looking good, Tintin  :)
I must however correct you on the "Brit, Swede and German"-note.
There would be two Germans instead as the Bosch company is not swedish but german.

Keep up the good work!

The lens actually says 'made in Sweden' on it ;)  I assumed Germany too, based on all my BMW bits, but this lens is Swedish.

I assembled the front end today, so I can take it in and have the spacers I need made up and get a tab welded onto the fork leg for the brake plate to mate to.  Couldn't resist including the clipons and headlight brackets ;)  I don't have the right size bolts (Brafasco was closed today) for the headlight bucket so no pics of it on yet.  Plus with my luck I'd drop the front end and that would be the end of my nice bucket.  I'll put it on when the bike is ready to be wired up.

that should look great when its done..just wondering..are you getting the tabs for the disc calipers removed since you are getting the forks redone for the drum?

Yeah, I'll likely grind them down.  I have a complete dual-disc setup, but if I ever decide to go that route I'll pick up another set of forks to go with it.

that front end is bloody awesome :o, will welding with the oil in the tubes cause any drama?, or effect the seals and the like?  just asking....

I'll dissasemble the forks before the welding.  First will be the small spacers needed, and then we can sort out the final size/location of the tab I need welded.  Maybe he'll tack it in place or something, but then I'll take it apart and give him the fork lowers to weld, grind and polish.

Then I'll toss in new seals, the progressive springs I have waiting and new fork oil.

I still need to finish the lower tree also - it had been powdercoated but got ruined in subsequent machine work that I didn't anticipate.  I guess that's why you mock everything up and then do your finishing work.  ::)

Not sure if I'm going to powder it silver again or black - likely silver.

Got my forks and triple tree back :)  The triple tree is going to be re-done in terms of powdercoating.  The guy who did it (good guy) wasn't happy with the finish.  Quite a bit of bubbling in the finish.  So next week he'll blast it clean and give it another try.  The color is great and I expect the next go around will get us the finish desired.

Here are some shots of one of the fork tubes.  Remember, there were two mounts for the calipers on the forks, and the tab was added to mate with the brake plate on the front wheel.  The tab is perfectly shaped to fit the brake plate exactly - snug fit, and tapered to ensure solid contact the whole length of it.

Check out how they blended the welds.  Looks like it was made this way at the factory :D
