Got the top end back from Gord Bush Performance up here.  Looks spanky.  Couldn't resist placing the parts on to see how it looks.

Well, got my sanding mops (check out sanding stars at Lee Valley) today and this evening spent some time cleaning up the engine a bit.

Still need to spend some time on the underside, and there are still some traces of paint.  That's bare shiny aluminum otherwise :D

A reminder of the 'before':

And now:

Threaded the new cam chain on as well, and today I received the 2nd 1/2 of my new front wheel.  Not convinced I'll end up using it, as it will require quite a bit of work to make it all fit, but it sure is purty :)

It's a DID rim laced to a Yamaha XS1 hub with a brake stay added to allow it to work with other forks (the XS1 has a tab welded to the inside of the forks to hold the hub in place)

Neat stuff - probably won't do this on this go-round.  If they were straight replacements for the stock tappets I'd order a set today, but it sounds like you need to modify the rocker arms and the tappets themselves to get them in.  Not sure I want to be grinding on my rocker arms just yet.

Shoot it's been a while!

Welding pics.  Lots of new bracing and the right bits for my tank strap.  Just enough room for my arse too, and the Radian arm now fits properly (shock mounts).  Nice welds, and they cleaned up a lot of mess so it's ready to be blasted and coated.

I agree with the nice welds.  I'm looking forward to seeing this thing come together.

Few more pics.  Hard to believe there was a 3/8" hole in the head tube where the fork lock used to be.  They smoothed out a lot - they do polishing at the shop too so they understand and have the right tools for the work.

was just lookin at the strap you are usin to hold the tank down, could you use spot welds instead of the pop rivits?, just thought it might make it look a little smoother from the side.... otherwise man... urry up ad finish this bike... it looks a treat!!!!!

I didn't make the strap (should have given it's simplicity and cost).  It's a stainless strap.  I might have a chat with the guy who did the welding on the frame.  They work mainly in stainless and alloy.  He probably has strips of stainless like this sitting in a bin  ::)

I'm workin' as fast as I can!  It'll get there.  I originally thought it might take a year or two in small chunks of work, but I should have known better.  I bought the bike 3 months ago and really didn't start until 2 months ago.

Now it's REALLY going to be something.  Picked up a set of 36mm Mikuni smoothbore round carbs jetted by Paul Whittaker, who races XS650 based sidecars.  Now she'll move a little more quickly.

Lucky Friday the 13th for me :)

Waited around in the morning for a meeting I had to have (phone call) and FedEx to arrive with my Bikebandit box full of goodies :)  Then I headed out to Guelph to pick up the Mikuni carbs from Gord :D

On my way to Guelph, everything slowed right down at Winston Churchill.  Flashing lights, and then I was able to see the 10 OPP cruisers gating in 20-30 Outlaws riders.  Was quite the spectacle, causing large traffic slowdowns.

Got past that, and got the carbs without a hitch.  Took some pics of the goodies I've been keeping in a box as I've collected the bits and pieces.

Are these not the finest looking fuel filters you've laid eyes on?  Chrome and glass - no plastic.

That's an EK 520MVXZ x-ring chrome chain to go on the 520 conversion sprockets.  Emgo chrome crankcase breathers, etc. etc.

Looks magnificent Tinny, get that bugger together so we can see the finished result! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Took a major step towards getting reassembly started.  Took the following bits for powdercoating today:

Frame
Stock swingarm
Radian swingarm
Stock brake stay
Radian brake stay
Rear brake rod
Engine mounting brackets
Lower triple tree
Kickstand

It's costing me $225 to have all the bits blasted and powdercoated glossy black.  I'm splurging another $50 to have the lower triple tree done in an aluminum color silver, as the upper tree which is alloy will be polished.

This is my inspiration:

Wow, man, like every one else said, can't wait to see this puppy in its final form!
Where did you get those fuel filters?  the cheap-o plastic jobs i get just keep melting and need replaced every 12 months or so. they look hot!

and, Terry: this is the funniest line i ever read in one of these forums:"the Barbarian is as Aussie as getting drunk and making a dick of yourself, ha ha!" :D
Good work , TinTin, and we look forward to more progress PICS!

Fuel filters etc. were sourced from Bike Bandit.  They disassemble as well for cleaning - not disposable.

Pingles are nice, but SHEESH, $28 each vs. $7.50 for the Clear-Views.  They look great in person.  Just need to sort out making them visible ;)

So I ordered some more bits from www.mikesxs.com and a Manx seat from www.clubmanracing.com (seriously, how would this be done without the internet?).

From Mikesxs I've got some new bits coming, including a complete rear brake rod/spring/barrel/nut set for $12, from which I'll use the new spring barrel and nut on the black powdercoated original rod.  Should be nice looking.

Also ordered a new sidestand spring and bolt to have a fresh look down there.  Plus bronze bushings for the stock swingarm.  Still not sure whether I'm going with the Radian arm or stock.  Both are being powdercoated and will be ready to bolt on.

The seat is a short wideline with the cutout, just like the one in the photo a couple of posts up.  I didn't need the cutout as I don't have an oil tank, but I like the look of it and maybe it will be like airconditioning ;)  Should sit perfectly on the frame.

Will snap some pics of the powdered bits when I get them back.
