New "forum" ????
« on: May 08, 2007, 05:56:07 AM »
Ok, just curious to see how others think about this.

As I have been building my little CB400F replica racer, I find one thing that helps and is also very interesting is to look at others projects and see what they are doing and how they are doing things. The bproblem is in sometimes being able to find them. They are not really tech question type posts/threads, or how to fix this problem I got with my carb/tranny/ignition/whatever help me threads. Yet they seem to get buried in there amongst the myriad of other such threads.

Personally, I would like to see a forum/sub-forum For Projects/builds. Whether its from a SOHC or from the "other bikes" wouldn't matter. Just somewhere that it would be easier to follow what others are doing or have done without having to hunt through all the more technical specific problem oriented help type threads to find them.

Curious as to what others think....good idea or am I just being too lazy to sort thru the other threads to find these project/build threads????
A good bike mechanic only needs two tools, WD40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move, but should, use the WD40. If it does move but shouldn't use the duct tape.

             Hey Charlie & duster,

I know what you're talking about. Builds (or Projects) seem to be kinda scattered around in SOHC , Other Bikes and some in the Open forums. I don't know exactly what the answer is and don't necessarily want to add work for Glenn and/or the Moderators either. Maybe someone has some ideas to accomplish it. ???

I understand the search issues, I certainly wouldn't dodge more work  ::), but what defines or differentiates a "project" or "build?"

Seems to me, most of the bikes on here are projects or builds, so we already have a forum for that.  ;D

Something like my cb450 or cb750 build.
Where someone starts a thread and keeps it updated as they make progress on their scoot.
I think a PROJECT/BUILD forum would be a great idea for this site (my 2cents)..

Just playing devils advocate.

Let's say you are in the midst of your build/project and you are interested in installing a different front end and have a question. Where would you ask/post the question? Secondarily, where would someone else with a similar thought and question look for the response(s) you received?

With my bikes, if I had a question on say what wheels would fit or what not, I would post the question in the TECH forum. Then once I got my answer or what not I would update my main build threads (see either the cb450 or 750 ones I have kept updated)..

I like having one thread for the whole bike because if another person likes a certain part or something, then can just go back to the thread and find the info that they need..

My 2cents.

Nice idea.  I would like to be able to look at what others are doing with the small SOHC's more easily.

Yeah.....what ProTeal has said. Something for the project threads such as his or the 450 and 350 threads in the "others" forum.  Maybe even something like Projects/Customizing. I dunno, just thinking out loud here. kind of like the Tech/SOHC forums are for the more stock, rebuild, repair, trouble shoot, but the project/Customizing wuold be more for the long term build projects and/or doing the more unusual, out-side-the-box kind of stuff.....say like modifying a 750K to take a F2 front end, or whatever. ???

Daniel has a neat idea.  :)  Maybe almost like how MS Outlook works where an item can be assigned multiple catagorites so that it show up in multiple listings.

btw, my name is Daniel also.  Must be the name given to guys that come up with neat ideas. 8) ;)

I'm with bob on this one, it seems to me if you have a sub set  categories for every aspect of repair and modification the threads and topics would be too "thin" and would require a lot more searching.  leave the micro searches to google, leave the forum as it is.
The mods on this forum do a fine job of keeping the board together, lets not make more work for them, now I have met my ass kissing quota for the year.    :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
