Honda 3-wheeler
« on: May 21, 2007, 08:13:29 PM »
Just traded an old Chevy motor for an '85 Honda 200X.  Found a little info on it by doing web search, but not much.  Anybody know how to static time the ignition?  Dunno what's wrong with it, won't start, it's got a CDI and a single Keihin carb.  Shoot ether to it and nothing.  Spark is there, but seems weak and inconsistent.  There is compression, but I haven't used my tester yet so I'm not sure how much.  If anybody knows anything about the ATC 200X I could use a hand! ;D

Pretty much the same engine as the CB125/185/200 XR/XL and everything else single cylinder ohc from 1971 on.
Biggest change was ignition system. Timing is is easier than falling off a log. Either you remove left engine cover to get to timing marks on generator rotor or it has two plugs, one to turn engine and one to look at timing mark. Set a 'F' , remove left cover on cylinder head (the one that says CDI ;D) and check the lines line up.( one on rotor and one on fixed coil) unless its full of condensation or been under water (possibly) the advancer could be stuck (unusual but possible, springs can break as well)
Lots of fun and silliness. They have about 12bhp stock but there is so much tuning stuff you can get double that (well, 23.4bhp on dyno, close enough ;D)

Got it to run by pulling it behind my buddy's Kawi 400.  Smoked like a 2-stroke.  Checked compression:  dry is 60PSI, wet 100.  Time for a top end!

Wasn't anything as nice as Teal's beastie, just an '88 Chevy truck 350. ;)
