CB450 Black Bomber ID Help - Please
« on: May 10, 2007, 04:24:55 AM »
I have a Black Bomber that I just picked up over the weekend. Me nor the fellow I bought the bike from knows what year it is. Can one of you tell me how many of these were made each year - 1965, 1966, 1967, aand their last year 1968, please? They started with CB450 1000001 in August 1965 so I'm reasonably sure it's not a 1965, but could it be a 1966 or 1967 since it's 13, 802 away from the first one. This is #1013802.

Thanks,
Gordon

         Gordon,

I've got some info and knowledge of the 450s but, I really don't have anything that would help you to narrow it down any further than you already have. The folks over at cb450dohc.com might be able to help you out. Give them a try and see if they can and I'll see if there's anything I can pull up.  ;)  BTW, nice to see another one, especially a Black Bomber, getting another chance. 8)

Bill, thanks. I signed up over there last week, but the traffic is slow and appears to be a lot of people looking for help - not giving it. So far no help on the sources for pistons, gaskets, ect.

I did make a good score though. I was watching EBay and found a seller willing to end several of his auctions and sell me the "bulk" of is inventory. I'm sure he quadrupled his profits, but I walked away with a nice tach/speedo, original handlebars, perches, controls, rear shocks, and seat pan for $400. This gets me the more rare stuff and things like horns, headlights, turn signals, rims, tires I want NOS. I have to find a nice exhaust system - so please keep your eyes open.

Thanks again,
Gordon

          Gordon,

Sounds like you picked up some good stuff there for that Bomber. The thing about building one of those Bombers or even the 68', is gonna cost a bit (depending on who you get it from). Now and then you might get some bargains on a few things but then again... :-\  If I see anything that I think you might be interested in, I'll let you know.  ;)  Myself, I'd like to have a "Bomber" gas tank for a later cafe build but they are so high and hard to find. Anyway, I'm getting kinda anxious for you as you get things done on that Bomber. ;D  You take care and I'll keep in touch. ;)

Bill, I'm working on you a tank. The fellow I picked this bike from has a few and "might" be willing to part with one. He's supposed to let me know. I als picked up a wire harness from this fellow in the $400 deal.

I think I did ok. The most expensive bike I've done to date is the 1975 H2C Kawasaki. I had $700 invested in just the seat of that one.

I beleive it is a K1. Honda did not use years they used  K 1 through whatever.
So if the number starts with 1 it should be a K1. My 70 and 71 both start with 4, so they are both K4's.
Pretty sure thats the way it goes.

Actually, it's a 1966 K0 - a real Black Bomber - ugly seat/tank combo and all.

Craig, the Bomber (K0) series is one of those that Honda ran for 3 years and did not change the prefix or starting number. I'd love to find out how many were made each year, but I haven't found that info yet.

They started production in August 1965 with # 1000001 and simply let the counter "roll" for 1965, 66, 67, and part of 1968 until the K1 was introduced. Without knowing the number made or without the original wireing harness - it's hard to tell. I actually found two guys through the VJMC that had 1966 models with VIN's on each side of mine.

Thanks to all of you that helped.

Best Regards,
Gordon
