Should I go or...
« on: June 23, 2005, 07:48:10 AM »
Hi,
I'm new to this Forum and I want to ask you somme questions about CB750Four.  I've got a motrocycle for 4 years now, it's a Yamaha XJ600S Seca II (A "Suzuki Bandit" like motorcycle, with 60hp for 185kg).  My mechanics show me a Honda CB750Four k 77 in very good shape (need a paint job and maybe a carb rebuilt) for a thousand buck canadian (I'm from Montreal, by the way !).  I realy dig those motorcycle and I would like to "convert" it to a cafĂ© racer look but my concern is : will I lost big on the handling side ?  I'm not a power ungry motorcyclist, but I do love to play on twisty roads and i'm concern with the handling (and, maybe, braking?) of and 225kg 70s' bike.  Can this bike ride smoothly at 75mph ?  I sure know that it wont handle like a R1 sportsbike, but mine doesn't either, and it's ok with me to have fun !  Would you recommand me to buy it or will I be disapointed with this bike.

Thanks for your help  :)

I have a 1977 CB-750 K.  I've had it for about 4 years now.  Try to get the price down a bit if you can.  I've made numerous upgrades.  Dyna ignition, Dyna coils, Dyna wires, Electek regulator-rectifier, modern fuses, Pogressive suspension, 530 chain and spockets.  When I park the bike I get a lot of nice comments.  Get the bike.  Upgrade it and ride it.  It's like land, they don't make any more of it.  I like the 750 because where I live you just don't see very many 750's so it's kind of unique.  Get a piece of history.  Go for it and have fun.

My last bike was a 900 Seca.
I now  have a 78 750K I restored as a cafe. I love both bikes, but I sure know more about how this one works than than I did the Seca.  You will enjoy the ride, and the conversations the 750 generates is also part of the fun. One of these 750s cleaned up is truly is a piece of art.

seaweb11,

You summed it up well. Another point to working on these oldie's (ignoring my occasion groans and whining ;)) is you do get to know what they are all about. I guess the same could be said for the owner of, say a Buell in 35 years, if it lasts that long.

I wasn't disparaging Buell, the name just came to mind. Any bike new today, like the SOHC/4's of years ago, they get wrecked, left out behind the barn, etc. So if any of the current bikes survives 35 years, the owner will likely get to know how it works just as well when trying to restore it.

Besides with all this v-twin crap going around, how many bikes have FOUR exhaust pipes? That alone is practically a reason to get the bike. You hear this big hoo haa about old scholl, well these bikes are it.

Hey, this guy is asking about ride quality. I don't think I've ever ridden a 750 and now he's got ME wondering, too. Can you guys (folks/people if any women are here) get back on topic?
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!

Hey,

I have a 750 (K3) and *I* enjoy it on twisty roads, and think it handles fine. But then, I've only ridden vintage and its possible I don't know any better. Also, its a very smooth ride at 75mph. I must add that I was doing a pretty severe mountain pass with hairpin turns, and I was unable to come to a complete stop on the decline. Bike was totally not up to that road. I think your idea of ride quality will depend on the type of riding you do.

I should add that with the exception of my (yummy) new Hagon shocks, my bike is very much a before picture.

well i for one can vouch for the ol 750... as long as it is maintained, and every thing is working like it should, with a bit of work these bikes can really get along, be ready to have stuff dragging on the ground when the pace goes up though, and also get the best tires you can get for the ol girl,  be willing to climb all over it when you want it to go fast round a corner... and keep in mind ITS 30 YEARS OLD!!!.. ;D.

i chaced a guy out of the mountains near where i live.. and he ws on a SV650(04)... he got past me, but didnt really make much of a  get away... so how well the old girl goes round a corner has alot to do with the rider aswell, rebuild your forks, make sure your shocks are good, rebuild your brakes..(properly).. and have fun ...these were super bikes remember!!! ;D.. oh and BTW... JUST BUY THE BLOODY THING!!!.. you wont regret it.. ;)

Welllll, compared to the newer bikes I've owned (and sold GSX1100, GSX750,) the 75 & 74 cb750's I have don't even come close to handling like my  but I no longer drive like a maniac, ;D Hmmmm?
