Topic: NUTS!!!

Finished mowing the yard about 7:30 tonight, washed and put the mower away, then went for a 10 mile ride to cool off.  Parked the bike in front of the garage door, went to the car to hit the opener, got back on the bike, turned on the ignition, hit the starter switch, and ....CLICK.  Nothing after that.  There goes another night checking the wiring. :

Start by checking the battery connections, and that the battery wasn't "boiled" dry, and not able to hold a charge.

Check your main fuse, too.

I have had batteries  "short circuit" causing instant failure. You can put a volt meter to the battery and it shows 12 or 12.5 volts BUT when you put load on it (turn the ignition on) it shows less than 1 volt. I believe it is caused by the the one of the welds holding the plates breaking and allowing contact to the adjacent plate

happened to me last night except turn key, nothin. no click no lights.  little white plug on the bsck of the ignition came unplugged. d@mn thing pissed me off for a little bit.

An hour later, just for the hell of it, I turned the ignition switch, and got lights.  Didn't try the starter, figure I'll go over the connections first.

your battery may just be alittle dead.  A 10mile ride unless over 5k all the time the battery probably didn't get alot of charge.

Weak charging system ?

I had a problem with my starter solenoid shorting out, it had a small tear in the wire housing and would short out on the frame.  Took me forever to figure it out.  If it hadn't shot out a puff of smoke the last time it did it I would more than likely still be trying to figure it out.

Earlier in the day, before I mowed the lawn and took that 10 minute ride, I re-torqued the engine mounting bolts.  The ground from the battery was flaky after that.  Re did that bolt today, and all is cool.
