IT TON'D UP!
« on: May 12, 2007, 08:58:44 PM »
my parents and elizabeth and i went on the "old bike ride 5" today... so many sweet old bikes!
a few from here too.  i think there were 75-ish motorcycles.  no official tally yet.

tried 3 times to get "baby" to ton up today... the first was a feeble attempt up to 85 before i ran out of room, the second i twisted the throttle (it's kind of one of those twist as far as your wrist will twist and then grab some more throttle and twist again) a curve and a car bumper decided for me that 98 was the number for that run, the last time... w/ my girlfriend trailing on the interstate on the way back from south denver, it wanted 100mph as bad as i did and we both hovered there merrily for 5 seconds or so.

about 200 miles around the front range of the rockies.  most of which was wide open throttle  ;D almost has to be keeping up with gordon on his 750 and a friend on his kz1000  ;)

pictures will come...

Love the cream beemer myself.

that bike got wrecked in boulder when a guy on a bicycle came out of nowhere (actually, from the side when the guy on the beemer had a green) and the rider and his girl went down at low speed... her ankle was on ice back at the bar in denver and he said his hip would be black by today.  thanks to german engineering the bike came thru unscathed... lucky, because he was borrowing it from bob, the organizer of the ride.

Someone powerwashed the 400F's engine right out of existence!  ;D

Love seeing all those beemers.  Would love to have mine in the group - looks like a great ride.

Looks like you guys had a great day. Wish I could've joined. Did Bob take the sidecar? Better question: Did Bob keep the sidecar on the road?
Where/what is the Mill site? When's the next get together?

Looks like an awesome day.  Thanks for sharing the pics.

I think we need more pics and ride reports on this forum.

I always kick myself after the Old Bike Ride for not taking more pictures! ::)  Here's a couple of mine.

Meeting at the Hornet before the ride

Henderson 6-Cyl with sidecar

At the top of Lookout Mountain (Buffalo Bill's gravesite)

Couldn't have asked for better weather for the ride!  80's in the city and 60's in the mountains.  Had some serious fun canyon carving with Heffay on his 350 and Matt on his '78 KZ1000! ;D ;D

I don't know about anyone else, but how the hell can anyone afford to keep plates and insurance on multiple "rideable" bikes at the same time.....unless of course, he's doing the "plate-swap" thing.  ???

first off, he's retired and doesn't have much adherence to the law in the way of miles per hour so he very well may do the plate swap thing   :D  ... but, it is his business (motorcycles) so, he probably just registers 10 to 20?  i know he does a lot of buying and selling so, i doubt most of them are tagged.

thanks for the pics gordon... i keep finding bikes in the pics that i didn't see while on the ride.

It depends on the bike and insurance, with just liability ins. I pay $110. for per bike per year for ins. and $26.00 for the plates The newest bike I own is a 1990.
