clubman bars
« on: May 13, 2007, 02:53:48 AM »
I want to put clubmans on my '81 650. I had a set of superbike bars on the last bike. I have stock bars on this bike. I want to avoid the problems I had with the superbike bars.

Absolutely avoid hitting the tank, the superbike bars caused the throttle cables to hit the tank when turning stop-to-stop and I don't want to dent the tank! Allow the master cylinder resevoir to sit at the correct angle so the fluid level is, well, level.

What is the difference in quality? Nice welds, quality chrome, symetrical, durable

Looking at these ones http://www.mikesxs.net/mikesxs-chassis.php?category_id=1.4 having a similar looking front end, as shown in the picture, they look like a nice fit

I have those clubmans on my 78, which used to be on my XS650.

The throttle cables clear the tank by about 2-3mm, but the brake reservoir is nowhere near level.  The way I have them installed is the only way I could make them fit.  Notice how the master cylinder has to go behind the speedometer.  Even though I had to compromise the riding position a bit, I like them.

Wow, I didn't realize how messy my garage was!  I've since straightened up a bit.  :D

I never liked the idea of welded bars.  Only a problem in a crash, really.

Theres a guy on Ebay selling aluminum MX bars, the type with the removable crossbar.  He says in his advertisement that you can remove the crossbar for that new MX fat bar look.  Whats wrong with this picture????  I wrote and flamed him.

I have euro bars (which are almost exactly like superbike bars) on my '79 650 and I don't have any interference turning stop-to-stop.  I also have a set of clubmans from Rice Paddy and the quality looks good; I havn't put them on yet, though.
