650 head gasket on an overbore 500
« on: May 14, 2007, 06:19:38 AM »
will any year 650 headgasket work on a cb 500 K1 running an overbore kit? I have installed the 605 kit from ebay, and I have been struggling with rebuild issues that have made it necessary to take the head off. I'd like to replace this one with one that will fit properly. will ID on a 650 gasket match or come close enough to those of the odd-size 605 gasket that I could interchange them? otherwise, the sellers of the overbore kit indicate that I would have to purchase a whole new overbore kit just to get a new head gasket.

suggestions are appreciated.

Hi Mate I scorred some solid copper gaskets on ebay a while back, if i can locate them i might be willing to part with one, they are thinner than the fiber but being solid copper can be annealed and re-used

Get in touch with Cometic for your gaskets. They are the best out there and can make whatever you need. If your overbore has taken away too much area between cylinders for a standard type gasket they will make a copper gasket for you. You DO NOT need to purchase another kit!

cometic can make proper gaskets to whatever bore you need in the proper material. i'm told copper gaskets are more prone to leaking.

I agree about copper gaskets being more prone to leakage. I would only use one as a second choice such as with my 1080 engine where there is insufficient space between cylinders for a standard gasket.

way back in the old days,we would spray steel gaskets with copper coat to keep them from leaking, not sure if it would be necessary to spray copper coat on a copper gasket tho.
