Crikey, looks like someone bought it and bubble wrapped it for 30 years.  Interesting to see what he gets for it.

I will admit that it surely is a beautiful bike. Don't know that I'd pay 10,000 for it... but it sure looks pretty.

Well I dont know about lame. Maybe "unrealistic" for the asking price but then again, maybe not. It looks in great shape and every bit the head turner the ANY bike is today. It may be old but that does not mean it is not worth 10,000 to someone else. people pitch double that on harleys everyday which many turn around and sell within a couple years.

I would sell for $7500, now.

In the ebay auction, his wife says he will regret selling it. But when the check arrives....................................

This is a prime example of why the value of these bikes are shooting up astronomically, and it's not necessarily a good thing.  People on these forums simply want to enjoy their hobby while others are trying to capitalize off them and nothing more.  I'm not saying that this is an exmaple of the latter, but you get the idea.  These bikes aren't worth near that much, but the above poster is right in saying that something is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.  These high prices are driving more level headed hobbyists out of the loop.

Oh yeah, ebay is also one of the root causes of these shennanigans.

Moduleum,

I agree with your comments about people who have no real interest interest in a hobby themselves trying to capitalize off of folks that are simply enjoying a hobby.  One of my other interests is amatuer radio "ham radio" as it is more popularly known.  I enjoy working with older tube type ham gear, and I have seen the price of this stuff go thru the roof over the last ten years or so.  Most of this is caused by "dealers" who's only interest in the hobby is buying and selling.

I hope that the vintage japanese motocyles, which have been very affordable for us Average Joes up till now don't go the same way....

I bet mint CB750's will continue to climb in value. Whoda thunk almost any 4 speed musclecar from late 60's early 70's would fetch 6 figures? Or my house which cost $14,000 new 35 years ago is now worth $750,000?
A friggin plain pizza pie costs $14 nowadays!
Note that the ratty CB750's can still be bought everyday for under $1000, so bottom-feeders need not worry (yet)

One thing a couple of you are forgeting.  A dealer only exists if there are buyers.  Ham went up, well then that means there were a bunch of people wanting things and that drove the price up.  I could not put my grant XL CB on ebay and get more than 10 bucks for it probably, but if suddenly they were in demand, people would bid more and more.

So regardless of how you feel or who you blame, it is not just the sellers raising prices, it is the buyers getting into bid wars. More and more people want the same thing. we can still keep our hobby cause in a few years , something else will be popular and our prices will drop again.

If I found a K0 early-diecast in that condition, with all the original, hard-to-find parts, I would easily pay that.

Actually, I want a PERFECT K0 so badly, I would give someone who had one a blank check and say "Put any number you want on that check and I will pay it."  I will literally sell organs, (even my own), and perhaps my soul for a NEW "Zero-mile" Early* Diecast.  In Candy Blue-Green.

*: "Early Diecast" meaning a Diecast with ALL the sandcast features and parts, except the cases are diecast; a Sandcast in all but the engine cases.

It really annoys me when someone sees an auction like that on eBay, then looks at their pile of junk rusting away in the back yard and gets the bright idea to sell it on Craigslist and puts something in the ad like "A similar bike just sold on eBay for $10,000!!". ::)

The good part is there seem to be a lot of aftermarket parts for these bikes and as long as there is still a high level of interest in them I guess that will continue.

That's a sweet looking CB750, but could be built for less than the selling price on eBay.

I recently put a few small bits on eBay, including the owners manual for my 1973 CB500K.  It sold for US$61.  The toolkit for the bike sold for US$56.  Both to the same buyer in Australia.  But, it takes two to bid up an auction, meaning there was at least one other person who wanted it almost as badly.

My CB550 carbs sold for US$180.  The Turbo kit sold for US$1400.  Both relatively good deals when you consider the carbs had almost-new carb kits in them worth $90+ and the Turbo kit is as rare as it gets and was complete.

At the same time I bought a near-NOS Sunrise Orange 550F tank for $20, and a NOS 550F seat for $50, both off eBay.

My auctions are all No-Reserve.  My complete and rebuilt brake caliper for the 550 sold for US$15.  About what the brake piston seal would cost new.  So, some go high, others go low.

If its too high for you, wait for the next one to come along, and don't forget to search for auctions with spelling errors in the title making it hard to find, and therefore cheaper to buy ;)
