For all your Washer / O-ring "Rubber" or Felt Needs
« on: May 15, 2007, 07:24:36 AM »
I read some restorer that said to use Neoprene instead of felt washer (like in our Swingarm).  I figure, who the heck uses felt/ leather type washers anyhow??  But it was hard to buy just one o-ring or just one washer.  I had to find a place where was no minimum!!

Finally I found it:

http://www.smallparts.com/

If you want to know the difference between materials of Neoprene, Viton, Silicone, Buna, etc.:
http://www.allorings.com/material_selection.htm

There some grommets there too.

Of course yall know about: http://www.vintageconnections.com/GrommetKit.htm

The gasket set that  bought from http://www.cmsnl.com/ sucks it was made by KP and it was missing the tappet o-rings.  I will complain to them.

Where's the best place to get the grommets for the side covers? Looking to replace the grommets on my 1978 CB550K.

You mean, besides the Honda dealer?

Local Honda Dealer wanted big money for those grommets. Figured there might be a source that is more reasonable. If not, I guess I'll order thru local dealer. Thanks TT.

Philosophical point to consider:
Do you think Honda will still offer parts for the old bikes if they don't sell enough of them?

Pull out the grommet and take it to an electronics supply, the type that handles control boxes etc for industrial equipment.
they can match up a wire grommet to it, may not -be- oval, but it's rubber and will conform.

My old bike had a grommet from an air compressor at work that just happened to fall off while I was rebuilding the pressure switch.  perfect size

ken.

Bikebandit.com - I've bought most of my OEM parts there.  I think the new felt things and dust caps were a few bucks for my 750.

UPDATE: CSMNL just told me their "complete" gasket kit doesn't come with the 8 tappet cover rings.  Does that suck or what???
About $2.50 each @ motogrid.com for OEM.

Customer service said they would mail 8 of them to me because I didn't know.  So they are nice people.
