Good Idea or Bad?
« on: May 17, 2007, 09:19:52 AM »
With the Bike allmost down to the frame . I am thinking of replacing All nuts and Bolts with stainless and this includes the engines and carbs. Is there any areas that should special attention besides the Carbs. or should i stick with the originals there?

I dont care about my bikes being original & change them out too.  I also go for allen heads instead of the phillips.  They last longer, look better & are more functional (no stripping).

Not sure why you would not change the screws holding the carbs together, since there are kits out there.

Anyone else got a comment as to why this should not be done??

DON'T USE STAINLESS SCREWS IN ALUMINUM! :o

That's a good way to make it a permanent assembly! There is an electro-chemical reaction that will sieze the threads and they will NEVER come out. Guess how I know... ::)

Brain fart here....  ::) .I was just reminded about how many times i have swore when trying to take steel screws out of the older  Aluminium Life boats and how they were turned to dust pretty much.  I know common steel screws will react with aluminum but will stainless? was it stainless you used in your carbs?

If you use anti seize, you will insulate the two metals. We already have steel fasteners in our aluminum parts.
