Tank Bibs available for the 77/78 CB550's ?
« on: June 24, 2005, 03:18:41 PM »
Hi gang...Does any have a pattern or a source for a tank bib for a 1978 CB550? Would like to find something to dress-up the tank and have a place for my cell phone. Not wanting a tank bag....think they are to big.

What the hell's a "tank bib" Mark?

I've only been biking for 30 years so may have missed these.

My idea of a tank bib is the leather protector that runs from the front of fuel tank, over the top, down to the seat. Mainly, to protect tank from scratches, some of the new ones, now offer storage pockets for smaller items.

I once had a sail maker do a tank cover for me. We used the kind of webbing/platic buckles that come on back packs to hold it on.  If you don't live near a faily major sail boat/ port area, that might be problematic though.
I've seen some very small magnetic tank bags, though. There might be one in the Aerostitch cataloque- probably Chase-Harper.
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!

Magnetic is supposed to be bad for the paint. I don't know why, but that's what I've heard.

What's with riding with the cellphone, anyhow?

I think any of these covers left on for any length of time would be bad for paint.  Basically you're talking about the equivalent to a 'bra' for a car (really, bibs, bras... who thinks of these names  ::))

I think its a good idea, if something bad happens to you and you are still conscious you can at least dial 911. If you happen on someone else who has had a spill, you can call for help for them.. whether two wheels or four.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.
